Does Anyone Know Where to Get Oil Paintings at Reasonable Price?

I really want to get a few oil paintings for my house, but do not want to spend a ton on them. At most, want to spend $3,000 per painting. Is this possible? And, where should I go to look for them. People say to go to local artists show, but how do you learn about where those are? I live near intersection of Harlem and Touhy (in Edison Park). Close to Park Ridge, but still considered Chicago.

Hi D.,

My name is D. and I am a local artist. I'd be happy to meet with you and talk about what you'd like to do with your home decor. You can see some of my work at www.ferencakgallery.com. However, I have many, many more paintings than you'll see on the site. I speciallize in custom work, and my style is abstract, bold and colorful. You can call me at 708/807-0133. Take care, D.

I suggest checking out any of the galleries that are outside of the Gold Coast, like Wicker Park. Also check out the Pilsen area. The first Friday of every month is when they generally have openings and receptions. They tend to show more new emerging artists and you can buy local! The Reader has all the lsitings every week too.

Also, if you called the student affairs office at The School of the Art Institute you can place an ad in their job listings for such a thing. Unfortunately you just missed their annual holiday sale, but the exhibition for the undergrads is coming up soon I think, so you might be able to fins something there. Call the school for details.

I have the solution for you. The Rosmont Convention center has a christmas craft show coming up this weekend there are always beautiful paintings there. Quite a few different vendors check it out!!!!! They are local artists and the prices are resonable.

Most of the art shows are in the summer (because they're outdoors). The newspaper usually has a listing. Other suggestions: check the walls of restaurants and cafes - lots of times they'll display local artist's work and it's for sale. Also, lots of the local artists have websites with photos of their work (many are in the Bucktown area) - you might be able to find some by Googling. Also, the students at the Art Institute of Chicago have an artwork sale every year - you can probably get info about it at their website. Same with the students at Columbia College, which is a big arts school.

hi, D.. I'm not sure, what do you like and looking for. Guy I think of is a young artist of eastern european origin, He did his first piece a few years ago. His paintings are bright but limited in colors, large and pretty. He does something in beetwen realism and cubism, in his very own style. I dont think he's ever sold anything yet, I'm not sure if he is willing to. If you think you're interested call me, I can ask him-and try to arrange the meeting. M. ###-###-####.

I don't know what your taste is, but I love Sasha Kinens pieces. For the most part, she paints mysterious looking women in almost avant garde costumes (which she creates for the models). Her pieces tend to be a little darker, but I like their moodiness. She was our first venture into collecting and we now have 5 of her pieces, one of which was featured in Art Digest last year (they did a piece on her). They range in price $500-$12,000 that I recall. If you're interested check out: http://www.sashakinens.com

MOst of the art shows are in the summer. It really depends on what you are looking for. At $3,00 per paint, you have alot of options. In DT naperville there are also a few art shops, one on jefferson and one called beat of my art off of washington.
YOu can also call the art insitute and see what they recommend and places they think are reasonable and good. It might not hurt to go there and see what you like and are looking fr and they can maybe point you in the right direction.

I usually buy paintings on our trips. We have some wonderful oil paintings from Paris, Aruba, etc. Plus, it gives you remember the vacation by. Locally, I have seen local artwork at galleries though these are pricey. You might want to go by the local Art Institute and buy from artists directly. I have also seen some decent artwork at Costco though the work was a tad generic.

I just moved and bought a couple of great paintings I found from small time artists at www.etsy.com. Give it a shot. I got 2 large original pieces of artwork for less than $600 total!
