As for books: We use the Seek and Find books and use Flash Cards (My First Words Touch and Feel Flash Cards - love them) they have great ideas on the back of the card. They can be found at Barns and nobel.

I also find great books that are educational for toddlers in the sale bin at Albertsons. i found a lot of preschool books, books teaching about shapes and colors, etc.

Gymboree has a cute book you can get called Toddler Play. It has fun activities and songs etc. It's kind of fun, you might be able to find it at Half Price Books. Otherwise I think Gymboree stores carry them.
