Since you haven't yet met the doctor, maybe he/she wants to actually SEE YOU before telling you that all is well. Your labs might be fine, but maybe this doctor likes to have more to go on. Think about this: What if the labs are fine but you still have the complaint? Would you want the doctor to just tell you over the phone that you're all good, even though you're still experiencing symptoms? We hate those doctors who say, "Well, the bloodwork is normal, so you must be fine" when we know that there's SOMETHING going on. I understand not wanting the hassle, but I prefer to look into my doctors' eyes and have them look into mine. We complain about doctors being impersonal. This one just might want to see you as more than a case/file number.
If it's been a month and they have not contacted you, you're probably fine and they are just waiting until your appointment to discuss it with you. Remember that he is new to you, and it would be irresponsible of him to just call you and say that you're fine and not see you in his office. (You've already said that you would forego the appointment if you could just get the info over the phone. That's irresponsible of YOU not to want to dig deeper.) GPs need to sit with you and get a good feel for what you've got going on. Unlike specialists (like your OB), it's their job to get a full picture of you. You need to make the most of it.
When you saw the nurse--instead of the doctor--that was probably procedure for what you have going on. Quite frankly, there is no reason for you to have seen the doctor before discussing your lab results. Doctors hire staff to tend to the things that do not require their immediate attention. He will see you today and interpret the results for you and discuss with you your symptoms and treatment options.
Also, keep in mind that Monday mornings are the worst iin a doctor's office. It's the most hectic time, and your annoyance is adding to that pile.
