transition the milk into his diet and ween out the formula...
1 part milk 3 parts formula for the first day, then you can work your way to the only milk part and ixnay the formula ...
doesn't matter what you serve it in, if he has a certain time he'd rather have the bottle then give him it then, but if it doesn't matter, you coudl start to rid the bottle too.

I would just take away the bottles all together. Put them away, get them out of sight, and if he asks for one, tell him that he is a big boy now and he gets his (sippy) cup.

If you do decide not to totally ax the bottles, do NOT put milk in them. Put water in them as you phase them out.

Go slow with introducing milk. I would do 1 ounce of milk to 3 ounces of formula. If he is fine you can increase the milk a little every day until it's all milk.

FWIW, someone at WIC told me that a young toddler should have 16-20 ounces of milk each day, and no more than 4 ounces of juice. The rest should be water.

He might be to latched onto the bottle to make an easy transition. For us both my girls were off of the bottle by 10 months old and given some formula or breastmilk in the sippy cup with a tiny bit of whole milk and by 11 months they were almost on 100% whole milk in the sippy. You just gradually increase the whole milk each week or every few days.

I'd personally get rid of the bottle and stick with sippy cups. I think it would be harder on the child to seperate from as the child gets past a year.

By age two an open cup with water is a good start and by three they spill much less. My oldest is 4.5 yrs. old and she drinks from a sippy outside the kitchen, bedtime and in the car.

I started by putting only water in the bottle and milk in a cup. If he's fine with milk, I don't see a need to continue with formula.

Hi S.,

I mixed milk & formula for a few weeks until I thought my kids could handle it okay.

But I took the bottle away - cold turkey. I saw too many of my friends with their 1 1/2 year olds still using a bottle at night. Both of my children took to the transition just fine.

Good Luck!

What we did with our son is we just changed everything to milk and did away with the bottle all together. He did fine, had some adjustment but that is all. Some kids don't adjust as well. So you will need to see what works with him.

I was so worried about getting my daughter off the bottle that I did it by 14 months. It was horrible for her, that was her one thing that soothed her and made her happy and I took it away from her cold turkey. With my 14 month old I still give him bottles, until he masters the ability to tip a sippy cup and hold it himself, I am not going to take them completely away. I plan to be done around 18 months. What is the rush? So people can brag that they made their babies grow up too fast?
