P.M.
Hulu has free excercise videos. Netflix has some too. Youtube as well. Or just google yoga videos. Tons of free videos online now. If you enjoy Yoga you'll love Pilates. Good luck! :)

Not using it for any spiritual beliefs but what the heck if it reduces stress/anxiety better than popping a pill.I haveplanned on seeing what the library has but just wanted a recommendation to what you ladies use if you did do YogaAlso wanted to tr at home before signing up for classes.

I order them on Netflix..
and I watch more than I do ;)
I used to do yoga (first pregnancy) but after that, I hated it. I get too bored. It's too "still" for me. Same thing with pilates. It felt like torture.
I won't ever go back to it, because I've realized (reading online) a few things about it. It's basically a spiritual practice (whether people realize it or not) and can lead you down a spiritual path (that may or may not vibe with your beliefs) without the person realizing it.

If you really want to accomplish all your goals, yoga won't do it. CrossFit will. It's very intense and effective. (I had a weak pelvic floor after my 2nd child and I took some dedicated pelvic core strengthening classes and it didn't look anything like yoga. It looked like CrossFit.) There are tons of videos on youtube. P90X workout DVDs kinda look like CrossFit.
I know a woman who did Yoga for years (edited to add: she was a certified Yoga teacher) and thought she was fit. She started doing CrossFit after her 2nd baby's birth (she was flabby and couldn't shed the weight) and she became addicted to CrossFit (many people do) and transformed her body. She looks amazing now, completely fit all over.
You can do a moderate/low key version of CrossFit if you are a newbie.
I enjoy hatha yoga, but cant motivate myself without a teacher. As others have suggested try diff free videos, borrow from library, etc to find what You like best.
I read the links provided below about the hidden dangers of yoga, if anyone wants me to sum it up, one said trying advanced yoga practices without proper training and supervision could be bad for your body, one said traveling around India alone, could result in you disappearing, one said our culture calls deep spiritual awakening a psychosis whereas other cultures call it worthy of being in the bible or revered.
I really like bodywisdom media's Yoga for Beginners DVD. (They have others, too.) I also really like Priscilla Patrick's workouts/DVDs. If you are lucky enough (like I am), one of your local PBS stations may carry her daily yoga show. My DVR records it each weekday morning, and I practice whenever I have the time. Good luck! Yoga is great for developing core strength, balance, flexibility & inner peace!
You might want to check out the Basic Yoga Workout For Dummies video. I've used it for years and love it; it helped me with most of the things you mention. You can check it out on Netflix first to see if it works for you.
Good luck!
I have an am/pm yoga DVD for beginners that I really like. The company is Element.
My friend let me borrow some of her Biggest Loser workout videos and there is a yoga video. I actually haven't tried that one yet but I have tried the others and I really like them. In the other videos they have people who show the modified version of the exercises too if you are a beginner.
Also check and see if your local community center or Y has yoga and/or pilates. Those would be the best places to start with an actual class because you can usually try them out for a lot cheaper than a yoga studio. Pilates is similar to yoga although not exactly the same.
Are you athletic at all regularly, like do you workout, jog, do recreational sports, etc.? I ask b/c if you are you can probably do some of the workouts past beginner, so don't limit yourself. One of the best parts of yoga is the varied poses and abilities in every work out!
There is a local guy in KC called Tom Jacobs that does quite a few classes around town and they are very reasonably priced!! Plus, he's an awesome yoga teacher and just a great guy. I don't know if he goes all the way to Topeka but honestly, I'd google him and see if he has any classes you could attend.
Jillian michaels for fitness yoga!!
