Hi Mamas-

I am having a cleaning service clean my house this week. It's the first time I've used a larger, professional service. Before moving to South Florida, we lived in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area and I used friends or friends of friends that had their own businesses. I was wondering if I need to tip the ladies that do the job. The cost of the service is pretty high, so I'm pretty sure they are getting paid a good rate. Just wondering what is typical. We're between Ft. Lauderdale and Miami, if that helps with current standards, etc. Thanks!

What can I do next?

I wouldn't... You are paying them for a service, and they are performing that service. IF you feel like the person went above and beyond their job duties, and did really good, then a tip might be in order... but otherwise, no.

I am from NJ and I don't tip the cleaning lady. I do give her a bottle of wine on Thanksgiving and a $25 gift card to the grocery store on Christmas. But I get the same person all the time... Not sure if that will be the same for you. HTH!

I cleaned homes for a long time and never expected tips. We did receive alot around christmas time, which was very appreciated. A nice way for our clients to show they appreciated my hard work. I worked independently.
The only time I felt a tip was warranted was if we were asked to do something above and beyond our normal duties. Flipping mattresses, moving furniture, scrubbing stains out of the carpet etc.

It all depends.

Our first cleaning lady was from a cleaning service. We made the payment directly to the company. I'm fairly certain that she only saw a certain percentage of the fee or was paid an hourly wage. Thus, we tipped her.

Our current cleaning lady gets paid by check, written to her. I know she gets the entire amount. We do not tip her (she makes GREAT money in the few hours she is here) and she does an outstanding job.
