This is the second time within a year that my blow dryer starts smoking and catches fire. It happens to be the same brand and model I had both times, which I purchased at Sally's, and is called the GVP Pro 1800 (I tried posting the link but mamapedia chopped it up so I removed it). I only use it once a week on my own hair, and I use it daily on my daughter's hair, but only for a few minutes, so it shouldn't malfunction. I also hold it far from my head, I don't put it directly on my hair when I dry, and there are no hairs stuck in the motorized fan. I have never seen anything quite like it, as my old blowdryer worked for 7 years before having issues (I still have that dryer, it just doesn't heat up the way it used to so it takes forever to dry hair, but other than that, it works...incidentally, that was a Revlon dryer that I purchased at Wal-Mart and cost less than the Sally's one!). I was wondering which blow dryer you recommend, I don't want something too expensive but I want it to be reliable. Any particular brands and models you recommend? Preferably something that will dry hair quickly but won't fry it. Thanks in advance!

I don't know what kind mine is but do you clean the vent part? I know we had one burn up several years ago because it had no air flow for the vent area. Too much hair spray.
I just got a HerStyler Tourmaline Pro for Christmas. Dh bought it on special for $75. It's normally a $250 dryer.
I had no idea how much better a nice dryer was until I used a friend's.
Don't think I'll go back now!
Quicker, quieter, hair looks much smoother!
I've had my babyliss pro for 8 years, and it is still amazing! Pro dryers really do make a difference..higher heat, longer cord, more power, dry faster.
I don't use my blow dryer much anymore.
(It's around here somewhere but I'd have to hunt a bit to find it - it's got to be over 10 yrs old.)
And when I do, I use nothing but cold air.
It has a button to press for 'cold' and I have a rubber band over it so it never heats up.
Heat for hair is bad and can damage it.
Honestly, it doesn't take any longer to dry with cold air.
Love, love, love my Chi blow dryer! It was expensive, but it's fabulous, and it's warrantied forever.
They have a few different ones, and they're probably all good. I have the red one.
I love my Remington TStudio Collection one. I believe it was under $40 years ago (Target). Good luck. (Can't stand shopping for hair dryers, I hope you find one you really like. It's overwhelming.)
I had an Infinity Pro by Con Air for a few years - I use it daily and a week ago it blew! It's costs 35.00. Last week I bought an 80.00 dryer - the Ba Bliss pro Nano. I think the Con Air for 1/2 the price was better. Had more power. Both are anti frizz - get the Con Air. It's orange. You can see both at Bed Bath and Beyond.
Mine is a Conair w/high wattage.
I've never had a problem w/it.
I do clean the back of the vent often to get the gunk out.
I wonder if it could be your outlet. Do you live in an older home?
If you have the receipt, maybe you could take it back to Sally's. If not, I
would buy a new Conair @ Walmart & see if your current hairdryer has a
some info on the box to see if you can write in & get a replacement.
I am not at home but I got a dark/hot pink one for my granddaughter for Christmas. We use it nearly daily for her brother and she uses it on waist length hair about twice per week. I often use it too.
I think that they can get clogged pretty easy so make sure the vent on the end is not blocked.
I googled it and this is the hair dryer I bought. Revlon Ionic 1875
