Need Ideas for a Good Hairdryer

I'm hoping you all can help me identify a really, really good hairdryer. I have very thick, coarse, curly hair and I rely on a hairdryer to straigten it. My current hair dryer just isn't that powerful and I can't seem to find a better one at Target or similar store. Any suggestions for a good hairdryer? I'm willing to spend more $ but want to make sure it's worth it.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks so much to everyone for your responses - I found them very helpful. I was at Macy's this weekend and came across the Infiniti by Conair Professional Nano Silver Tourmaline Ceramic Styler, Model 224 and decided to give it a try based on some of the posts here. I tried it out yesterday and love it! I knew my recent hairdryer was not working for me, but I had no idea what a difference a good hairdryer would make - even my husband noticed the difference! I'm not sure that it was that much faster, but I could tell it was gentler on my hair and the result was very soft, shiny and smooth straight hair that feels like it does when I have it done at the salon. Goodbye dry hair and frizz! Thanks ladies!

My hair stylist told me that the hair dryer makes the difference in the way it drys/straightens hair. I was having problems with my thick coarse hair looking not so soft. She suggest I go to Sally Beauty Supply and invest in a good hair dryer that is ceramic with mulitple temp/speed levels.

I got one that I love! My hair is smooth and straight after blow drying. I also invested in a $100 ceramic flat iron that I use with the hair dryer and I don't ahve problems with split end or thick icky looking hair.

Good luck!

I have naturally curly, thick, coarse hair and use the Conair with the brush attachment to dry my hair before straightening. I love the ceramic straightener by CHI. My girls loved mine so much they each bought one as well. You can buy them at JCP with certain beauty salon coupons so you really get a great price too!

Hi,

I have similar hair issues and I use the Conair Infiniti Professional Tourmaline Ionic. Its specs are: 1875 watts, 3 heat and 2 speed settings, cool shot button, and optional diffuser attachment. Pros: high heat, powerful motor, removable dust filter. Cons: long cord that does not wind up into the base, and slightly heavy. I bought mine at Sally's Beauty Supply for $50, but it's available on-line right now at drugstore.com for $35.

I also second the other suggestions for a flat iron. I purchased the Jilbere tourmaline series from Sally's for $60. It's excellent for a quick touch up on my really stubborn sections of hair.

Good luck in your search for a new hairdryer!

Consumer Reports did a review of hair dryers in Jan 2009. I just got a new one adn went with a Remington that I got at Target. It was one of their recommended models. Have you tried a hair straightener?
