Hello Beautiful Ladies,

I wanted to know, does anyone have suggestions about dishwasher types/ brands. My husband and I have never had a dishwasher (except me for the 7 months I lived in an apartment) and are getting REALLY tired of washing all the dishes a 2 year old makes. HOW can a child ½ my size make 3 times the dishes?!? The things we think we want are: nylon baskets (we’ve heard they’re self healing from cut surfaces), QUIET, reliable, and long lasting. Is there anything else we need to consider? Are there any features we need to make sure are included? Are there brands to avoid or to consider as our ONLY option? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. We really don’t know what we’re looking for.

Thank you for your help! –Janell- (and Hubby too!)

So What Happened?

Thank you to all that have offered such great insight. My hubby and I went out looking again today and think we're going to buy either a Bosch or the P(something) Fisher with two drawers. Both get great reviews from the people we've talked to.
Again Thank you for your advice and suggestions. -J

Well, last night we finally found and bought our dishwasher at a Sears Outlet. It has some little abrasion marks near the handle, but not that noticeable unless you're really looking. It is an 800 series and was marked down to $695. (Originally almost $1200.) We figured that with our own 2 year old, plus the one I watch, it was only a matter of time before it was scratched anyway, so who cares that we didn’t do it. Thanks again, -J

Hi. My husband works for Sears. He is a service technician so he works on all sorts of home appliances. He said that he recommends a Whirlpool dishwasher. He said they hold up the best. Hope that helps.

My dad has sold appliances for over 30yrs so I have a few pointers. SHOP AROUND. There are low end models for only a couple hundred dollars but you will have to prewash everything, and there are top end models that could run you over a thousand. You probably only need something in the middle, but you need to shop price, some companies will over charge you. If you are interested in getting an idea of a good place to go let me know where you are at and I will let you know who is good in your area- if I know someone there.

I have a bosch, and I LOVE IT TO DEATH!!!!! it was really expensive, and we actully saved for quit a few monthsso we could afford it instead of just aregular washer... But it has an all stainless steel tub, no visible buttons for little ones to push, and ti super heates the water to sterilze dishes, so you can put your baby bottles in it and not have to sterilize them again after.... It gets Everything off and as I am one to not even rinse my dishes it works out well for us.

Hi Janell,
I know that the more you spend the quieter the dishwasher. I have a Kitchenaid. It's about mid priced. fairly quiet be built our house 2 yrs ago. By the time we bought the dishwasher we couldn't afford the one we wanted. The one we wanted has a rack on the bottom for flat pans. I still like the dishwasher I have, though. I have a septic tank, so I have to rinse my dishes before I put them in anyway. That wasn't one of my big concerns. Have a nice day.

I work in Real Estate, and I swear I hear at least once every couple of weeks, someone bragging about a Bosch dishwasher.

I wasn't so sure, becuase hey I am not a appliance guru or anything, then my mom bought one. SHE RAVES about it. So maybe it is a pretty good dishwasher...

Coming from the furniture/appliance industry I will tell you what is the best features to have and you will have to spend a little more to have them but they are worth it and will last longer. A stainless steel tub is best it last longest and also helps keep the water hotter. A dual function dishwasher meaning you can just run a top rack only or bottom load only load, so say you have extra glasses/bottles only to wash you can just run a load of top rack only, or you have extra pans bottom only! A definite must is one with a built in water heater becasue it gets the water hotter than your water heater may and it sanatizes your dishes better and finally one with a built in disposal this will take away all the extra food particles so they arent floating back into your clean dishes!! You can find these with all of the above features I think around the 700's If you are lucky you can find floor models that will be knocked down in price but will still carry their warrenty. For me I would buy an LG! Thats my top pick! But there are a lot of brands that carry all and some of those features! GOod luck! Bosch is good too. (And a hint Sears and Maytag are one and the same now so shop around ) Sears WAYYYY overprices sometimes escecially if you want an extended warrenty!

Hi Janell,
My husband is a plumber so I took your question to him.
He said rather than brand-name, what you should look for is the one with the best warranty. The ones to avoid are the ones with "built-in garbage disposals" as they will clog your drain lines. Dishes need to be rinsed thoroughly before using a dishwasher and that will get the best performance from your machine.
Good Luck!

Sears brand is probably the most reliable and they stand behind their brands and offer great warranty should something happen. People who buy the most expensive brand are really only buying the label. No offense to the previous writer, but having stainless steal inside of the dishwater will only create more problems in the future. For the most, steel rusts, not at first, but eventually. It is always safer just to use the plastic or nylon baskets. We purchased a Kenmore stainless steel that also hide the buttons so our baby could not access it. Hope this helps!
