T.H.
Well, I hadn't heard about the things Cheryl mentioned (i'm so out of the loop sometimes!!) but even before hearing that I would say pack your own. We had to change my son's formula frequently his first few months because he couldn't seem to digest anything we were giving him and each time it caused him to have a bit of an upset tummy. Now, it was nothing major by any means, but he would get constipated and feel a little different I think, and when you're on vacation you really don't want to have to deal with that! I suppose if they actually are the same, my argument is completely null and void, but I would sense that they are probably very similar but not exactly the same, I wouldn't take the chance.
Another tip...we've traveled a lot lately too and I have just been dumping my son's formula into gallon size ziplock bags (double bagged!!) and packing them that way. Those cans are so bulky and so hard to deal with, especially when you have limited space! Formula cans can be opened for a month without spoiling so if you only have to pack enough for 2.5 weeks, your window should be plenty big enough to have those other packages opened and not in use. I have wondered a couple times if they would search my bags and wonder what these bags of powder were, so I did label them in big letters, and so far I haven't been stopped (they were in my checked luggage, but still!).
Anyway, it's hard to know what/how much to pack, especially for such a big trip, but I would try to stay consistent with the things that really matter and to me, Formula is one of them!
