Okay, did they switch which hand you wear your wedding ring on? By" they" I guess I mean they powers that be, church, someone I don't know who :P I see a lot of people wearing their rings on the wrong hand. Is it some new custom?

What can I do next?

Why should a woman not wear her ring if she's divorced. I wear my wedding ring (I'm divorced) which can also pass as a dinner ring on my right hand. LOL or I did before I gained weight. I wore my grandmother's wedding ring on my right hand for years. I wasn't married but I liked having her ring on my hand.

My husband almost cut off the fingers in his left hand after his wedding ring got caught in one of his power tools. And he's a very methodical and careful person too, so that was quite a scare. After they sewed him up with 13 stitches, he's been wearing it on his right hand. Suits me fine.

The right hand is the European custom. Also, if some women get a fancy setting in either an engagement ring or an anniversary ring (and sometimes a wedding ring), then the rings get split up and worn on both hands.

I wear my wedding ring on my right hand. Our 'wedding' rings were originally made for our handfast ceremony, which we held about 5 years before we legally married. The rings were made for our right hands... you know, we've talked about it since, and I think we were both wanting to do something a little different, as we were both previously married. Plus, he's spent a lot of time in Germany and was familiar with this custom.

I also had a 'family ring' made recently by the same artist, and I wear this on my left hand, where a wedding ring would be. They're a nice set, the artwork is beautiful (they are picture rings) and I love how they all look together. (I also wear a blue moonstone on the right. Got it when I had Kiddo.)

I've never heard of wearing it on the right hand.
I always heard left hand (cause it was closest to your heart).
Oh well!
I guess the marriage is more important than which hand you wear the ring on (or if you wear one at all)!

A lot of Europeans wear it on the right hand. The left hand can mean divorced in some cultures.

In Europe and some other countries, it is customary to wear your wedding ring on your right hand.

Still on the left here in the US...but people like to be different and start new trends....

I have not noticed this at all...
Either I'm not observant or this 'trend' hasn't hit here yet, I guess.

Yes it can be a European thing. We are Greek and sometimes I notice people from our church wearing theirs on their right hand.

But, sometimes people just have fancy right hand rings and maybe they aren't married at all! Or as someone else mentioned perhaps they were anniversary presents or or something like that.

Been married 37 years and my wedding ring nor my husbands wedding ring has ever been off. During many surgeries it was taped. My last surgery to have a kidney removed, it had to come off. I cried. However I remember waking up and my husband putting it back on. Only off for five hours in the OR. Some people wear them some do not. To each his own.

I know a lot of women who don't always wear their wedding rings because they have other rings that are pretty fancy. They also wear some pretty big blingy rings on their left middle or index fingers that clash with their wedding rings as far as fit, color, size.

Jewelry is jewelry.

I know women who haven't taken their rings off in 50 years other than to have them cleaned or repaired. I know women whose rings are so expensive they keep them in a safe instead of wearing them on vacation so they won't get lost or stolen.

I'm not sure it has anything to do with "customs". Just personal preferences.

Not sure what churches you might be talking about, but Jewish people traditionally get married with their rings on the right hand. Some move them to the left hand later on, but not always.

No offense, but I'm not sure what difference it makes. Some married people don't wear rings at all. I've been divorced for 15 years and I wear rings on my "wedding ring" finger all the time. Some of my favorites are ones my son gets me from gumball machines. Yes, I have worn them in public.

I'm not sure there's a "wrong" finger when it comes to bling.

Just my opinion.

Not sure, I have been married 15 years and don't wear a ring at all. I know I'm married and could care less if anyone else knows.

I guess I dont pay that close enough attention.

It would make sense though, if it were different cultures.

I could not even tell you where my wedding band is. If I did know where it was, we would be on our way to sell it.

We have never been Jewelry people.

Especially once kids came into play. My wedding ring had a Diamond that was on the ring like a Cake topper. It was deadly. I cut the kids only twice before I took it off.....never to want to wear it again.

We eventually want to get bands tattooed. That way we are never without the symbol of our love.

Patty K. I kinda swelled up reading your post. That is so stinking sweet/romantic. Love it!

Some cultures have it on the right hand. Most people I know either don't wear them (job or allergy) or wear them on the right. Sometimes I don't wear my engagement ring because it snags on things.

You know.... I've been noticing right hand single diamond solitaires, wedding sets, etc... And its been nagging at me. I've been wondering about treating yourself (I know lots of single/successful women who do treat themselves), broken fingers, lefties, cultures, etc... But hadn't actually taken the time to really look it up!

Yay! So glad you asked!

My friend wears her late mom's engagement ring on her right hand.

Another friend, a man, wears his late dad's wedding ring on his right hand.

I've seen women wear wedding sets on their right hands and I know in a few cases those sets were their mothers' sets.

In all those cases, the wearers liked to honor late parents by wearing jewelry that meant a lot to their parents. So what you may be seeing in some cases is a person wearing rings that belonged to a relative but don't indicate that the wearer is married himself or herself.

DH frequently wears his on the right. He's left handed and broke the knuckles of his left hand several times playing volleyball in his youth. Now the knuckles swell, when they swell the ring doesn't fit and he wears it on the right, otherwise it's on the left. Doesn't phase me either way.
