Diaper Troubles

I have always been a huge fan of Pampers diapers. When my first was born it was all I used because other brands tended to give her diaper rash within the first 15 minutes of wearing the diapers. When my second was born I didn't even consider any other brand and went straight to the Pampers. Everything was fine with the diapers until the company changed the manufacturing which was about 6 months ago when my daughter was nine months old. Now about 4-5 times a week she ends up soaking through her diapers and clothes overnight. I called the company and they told me the new design is supposed to be more absorbent yet more eco-friendly. I never had a problem with the old style leaking so I doubt it's more absorbent. The customer service representative I spoke with told me to try a bigger size. At the time we just moved her to size 3 diapers which are supposed to cover up to 22 pounds. I tried to move to size 4 diapers but they were huge on her and now we had an all the time leaking problem. I called back and they suggested using the Baby Dri line at night; which I did and still having problems with leaking. The company did reimburse me for the cost of a box of diapers but in the meantime I purchased 3 boxes to try and fix the problem. A friend of mine gave me a few Huggies to try to see if I like thim and sure enough within 20 minutes of having the diaper on she got diaper rash. I'm so frustrated right now. I'm changing sheets every day (sometimes twice after naps) and she goes through at least 3 outfits per day because of this. Has anyone else had this problem and what kind of suggestions do you have? I'm at my wit's end.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Because of child care options at the moment cloth diapers are out of the questions for during the day. I tried them for a few nights and sure enough she had diaper rash within 2 days. I borrowed a diaper from a friend who uses the Huggies Natural and will try those out as soon as this diaper rash clears up. She has an appointment with her Doctor (urologist for urinary reflux) on Tuesday and I will be asking lots of questions. Thanks for the advice and I will keep on the hunt for the perfect diaper.

I went through the same thing with my son and ended up switching to cloth diapers when he was 9 months old. FuzziBunz and BumGenius are both great and easy to use cloth diapers. You can read about my experiences here - http://www.ladyexpatblog.com/search/label/cloth%20diapers.

Pampers were the only diapers that did not leave a rash or leak but then I started having to change the sheets 1-2 times a day and was tired of it. Good luck!

we had a very similar issue. My daughter could only use Pampers swaddlers or she would get a rash. When she outgrew those (thankfully she;s tiny so the size 2 lasted us until she was over a year) we tried cruisers and baby dry, because we knew other brands did not work for her, she would break out horribly!! We're talking like bright read and occasionally bloody sores. It was terrible! The cruisers did not work for us at all, she only got a slight rash, but it was still a rash. We used the baby dry for a couple of months with no issues, but she did need to wear a bigger size at night to avoid leaks. Then her little bum started getting red with baby dry.
So at 15 months we switched to cloth! It's been 3 months, and I can't belive I waited so long. Cloth is wonderful, no leaks, no rash, saving TONS of MONEY!! I'm sure this isn't the advice you wanted, but if you have any questions about cloth the way that I do it (easy and cheep) feel free to message me. :)

Hope that helps and good luck!

Cloth diapers all the way. I know it's not for some people, but how I saw it was that I was already doing a ton of laundry since he would soak through his clothes and onto the sheets 2-3 times a night. He also had blow out problems in the morning so I had to wash that out too. So to me there was no difference between the two. I actually do less laundry with cloth diapers then with disposables. With cloth they really do hold in everything. The only time I have had leaks is when I have forgotten to change him in time and then he sat on my hip so the pressure caused them to leak, and the other time was when he was sick and had pure water poop. TMI sorry.

With cloth there is no way your baby can get a chemical diaper rash. Which is what I am suspecting your baby to be getting. IF you are curious you can message me and I can answer any questions you might have. Oh and I do save a TON of money with cloth. I'm only part time because our current daycare wont cloth, but we are switching soon so then I can go full time. But I still only spend $30 for his daycare diapers and wipes :D

What type of huggies did you try? Have you used the Huggies Supreme (natural fit)? They're my all time favorite and super soft material. If you havevn't used them yet, give them a try. Sorry I don't have any more options for you, those have always been my favorite and never caused rashes on my kids who all have very sensitive skin. Good luck!!

You may want to consider using Huggies Pure and Natural. I had to switch to those because my daughter would get a terrible rash from other diapers. The Pure and Natural do not have any perfumes and very little ink/dye. We have not had any trouble with these leaking. Good luck!

I would look for diaper covers (like the ones used for cloth diapers). That should control the leaking issue without having to wash sheets every night.

I, like you LOVED Pampers for my kids. It was the ONLY one that did not smell like urine the minute they used the restroom. Unfortunately they were a bit pricey for my budget when i had my second child, so i switched. I have used Walmarts brand diapers (White Cloud) for my baby for years. They are JUST as good as the old Pampers were. We never really seem to have issues with the smell of urine OR with leaking. I suggest you try those diapers and see if that helps the situation. I also never have had any problems with diaper rash while using those diapers, but if my son were to get a diaper rash we use Boudreaux's Butt Paste and put baby powder on top of it. THAT is the ONLY diaper rash cream that knocks out any degree of diaper burn in a matter of a changing of a diaper. I hope this helps you. Good luck, i know its not easy dealing with changing diaper brands.

For the diaper rash problem you need to look for chlorine-free diapers. I don't know brand names but just google it.

I do not like pampers... my son had a diaper rash and then he had a staph infection... He was also leaking and I complaint the company and told me the same thing they told you... I was so mad they also reimburse me. I use huggies and no problem.... but in your case I should start trying other brands... Seven generation is an eco friendly company... You can call them and they send you a few to try with your baby... Try also the stores brand... you'll never know... And for the diaper rash, use desitin and hidrocortisone 1% mixt all together. It really helps.... Good luck N.

I had a similar problem with both kids. When my son was a baby I too was frustrated. I mean I paid all this money for diapers to suck. And I was told to try generic. SO I picked up Toys R Us or Babies R Us Generic brand and perfect.
My daughter worked better with Luvs and Wal Mart generic brand. Again it worked perfectly.

We use the Target brand at night, and have had no problems with leaking. (We use cloth during the day, but at night, he pees a couple of times throughout the night, and was leaking with the cloth, so we decided to go to a disposable at night). We've had no complaints or problems with them, and our son is prone to diaper rash (one reason we use cloth mostly).

Definitely check out some of the eco-friendlier diapers--someone suggested Seventh Generation--they tend to have less chemicals in them, so they might cause less of a reaction.

I do think, based on the diaper rash reaction, that cloth diapers might be really good for your little one, though I know most people are interested in that option. But I look at it as just more laundry, and if you're already washing pee out of clothes, washing a load of diapers is not much different. :)

I honestly used to use pampers and that was it. Until I tried Luvs....
I think diapers are hard to figure out. Some people LOVE pampers & never have a problem. Some have the best luck with Target brand.
I know that for my son Luvs are the only kind of diaper that fit him right and actually DON'T leak, cause rashes etc.

Buy a small thing of another kind of diaper and try em out. Trial & error :)

We used the Luvs brand and never had problems with them leaking (with my grandchildren). Every child will be differnet with the issue of them breaking them out. That was the reason I used cloth diapers on my children because the disposables seem to irritate their skin in the diaper area. I also know there was an article on TV not to long ago about Pampers brand diapers and how the had changed and that they still felt they had a good product even though they were getting complaints from consumers about the leaking. You may even try the White Cloud brand.

I love the fit of Huggies for my kids - no leaks. My DD is allergic to the regular ones, but has done well with the hypoallergenic "Pure and Natural" Huggies in the green and white package. I usually buy them at Target.

Both of my girls have very sensitive skin and the only diapers that kept them from breaking out was the Pampers. However, when they got to an age (around 12-18 months for each) where they needed something more substantial for overnight, I started using Huggies Overnights on both girls. Neither one of my daughters have ever had a rash because of the Huggies Overnights. It would certainly help if Pampers would listen to their customers or come out with an overnight diaper like Huggies, but since they haven't, I'm still using Huggies for bedtime. Maybe you can borrow an overnight diaper from another mom to try it out so you don't have the expense of an entire package.

I still use Pampers during the day with my 18 month old. I wasn't going to switch to the new Cruisers but the sale was too much to resist. She's seems to be doing fine with them, but they definitely seem thinner. I haven't had any leakage problems with them (at least not yet). We just use the Huggies for overnight.

Good luck! As the mom of two girls with super sensitive skin, I understand your frustration.
