I was wondering if anyone has tried multiple brands of diapers and prefers a particular one for boys. Some people have been telling me that Pampers are great for girls, and that for some reason Huggies are better for boys. I currenlty use Pampers and haven't had any issues other than the occasional 'blow out'. Just wondering if I should make a change or not. My son is 6 months old and we're getting ready to move to stage 3. I didn't want to continue with Pampers if someone out there knows something I don't :)
Thanks for all the responses. I'll definitely give the Generic brands a shot! Trial and error we'll be our best bet. Thanks again.

It's probably a matter of trial and error, but I found that Huggies Supreme worked best for my middle son. I have a 7 month old daughter now and I've found Pampers work the best. You can go with less expensive brands, but that's one area I don't like to skimp on. I use coupons and sales when I can and experience less leaks that way!

I have an 18-mo old son. At around a year, he started leaking through his diapers overnight. He would wake up with soaked PJ's! We switched to Huggies Overnites for just that...overnight. Otherwise he is in Pampers Baby Dry (not Cruisers).
THe Huggies Overnites are a little hard to find and more expensive, but totally worth it. You can get them at Shop Rite and Wegmans.

I'm on my third child. One daughter (8 years old) and two sons (3 years old and 6 months). Anyhow, the honest truth is that Pampers and Huggies aren't really worth the price. They both work fine for the most part. Of the name brand, I liked Luvs the best. They had a pleasant smell and they worked as well or better than Pampers and Huggies. Pampers were the ones I liked the least out of those 3 name brands. They cost the most and seemed to hold the least. If my child had a large amount of urine at once, they would feel wet on the outside. All that being said, I found that the some of the cheaper off name brands worked as well as the big brands. I've bought diapers at Target, Walmart, Toys R Us, Aldi, Big Lots, Giant Eagle, Shop N Save and Sam's Club. While the off name brands are usually unscented, I've found that they usually work as well as the big name brands at a fraction of the cost. You may notice that the sizes in one brant may fit a little differently than the sizes in another (even true for the big names)but most of them work pretty well. You might want to try one of these cheaper brands and save yourself a little money on something you will essentially be throwing away anyhow. I know with our first, I always wanted to use the best of everything. But from personal experience, I've found that the highest price tag on diapers does not mean they are the best.
Good luck. BTW, it doesn't matter what brand you use. Your child will occasionally wet through everything. Part of the problem there is they way your little guys friends is facing when you close the diaper. I still haven't figured out which way is the best way to point to keep it from happening. I don't know that it matters. Sometimes I think it is the way my sons have wiggled and played that has caused them to point just the right way to get everything all wet. Also, if your son ever catches the rotavirus or a virus with similar symptoms, don't expect anything to hold in those messes.

I have tried a lot of different kinds of diapers and my favorite brand is Pampers. My son is 10 months old, is in a size 4 diaper...we use the cruisers and have been very happy with them. He drinks a lot, so at night time we use the Huggie over-nights just because of the volume of pee-pee my little man can produce and I haven't found an overnight from Pampers.

I used White Cloud for my 2 girls, now 3 and 4, but didn't like them for my son, 9 months. I tried everything out there and still ended up using Parent's Choice from Walmart. They were cheaper than anything else I've found and work just as well -he rarely leaks out, and only with a huge BM when he does. The only ones I really didn't like were Huggies, he leaked out constantly with those. I am due in August with #4 and will definitely keep using Parent's Choice - unless they don't work with the next one for some reason!

K., I have 2 kids a son that is 6 and a daughter that is 1. When my son was in diapers I some major problems with him when it came to the huggies. He "blow out" of them all the time. His diaper would barely be wet and yet his pants were soaked. The only diapers that I havent had any problems with is Pampers and Luvs. I tried using the off brand but he was allergic to something in the off brands. I happen to have the same situation with my daughter. She had huggies when she was 1st born ( baby shower gift) and she would also blow out of them. The only problem I have had with pampers is that it seems like the cruiser's at least for a girl are more opt to leak then the baby dry, ( i didnt have that problem with my son). Hope this helps.

I have 2 boys (9 & 7) I used Huggies for the 1st one. They were fine. For the second, he peed through everything. I would change him and in 2 hours his bed was soaked. It wasn't that the diaper was full, it was almost that he was peeing through the side. I never could figure it out.....anyway, finally I tried LUVS. They worked the best and were surprisingly less expensive. I was thrilled, and have told many people about them over the years. You know with the first I would only use the more expensive things because they just had to be the best. Well guess what, that's not always true!

We have used Pampers Baby Dry with my son since the beginning. We tried Huggies/Luvs/Walmart/Giant and either had leaks or rashes. So we always went back to Pampers. My friend now uses Pampers Baby Dry for night time only with her son since she was having to change him and his sheets every morning due to leaks with his daytime diapers (I think it is Huggies).
If I were you I wouldn't change unless you really need to for money reasons. If so, then I agree with the other moms about just buying a pack for whatever you want to try and if they don'r work you can donate the rest to a shelter or local Y. Good luck!

When my son was born, I bought Pampers. I tried Huggies and found them to be better for some reason--not sure why--just semed to fit better. O. of my friends, who has 2 boys always said that the Huggies worked best for her boys, too. Also, I tried the "Nanny's" brand from Aldi's and found them to be pretty good--and much less expensive than Pampers OR Huggies. They have a nice soft "fabric-like" feeling to them and I was suprised by the quality! Good luck!

I started with Pampers swaddlers with my first and I found we had constant blow outs up the back - basically every diaper change because there just isn't enough elastic along the back to fit my kids properly. We switch to Huggies Supreme and they have been just great for both of my daughters and my son (except for the occasional leak due to illness, improper fastening, or letting go too long - all human factors).
I think it really depends on the shape and size of the child - I'd say stick with what works for your child. If I were you, I'd buy 1 package of the size 3 and see if things continue to work out for you. If you have problems, you only have to deal with 1 package before moving on. I wouldn't change simply because you heard a different brand worked better for boys if you aren't having problems already.

Kissaluvs are a couple of bigger name brands of wahm diapers out there,
or there are also a bunch of other wahm diapers that are widely available at the budget cost and the high end boutique/artsy cost. There are many companies like myself who have been around for a bit. If you choose a wahm company you should pick one around for a year at the least.

I think I tried every type of diaper out there when my son was a baby. My favorite was actually the Especially for Baby brand at Babies R us. Get the "regular" not the "supreme" because the supreme is too thick between the legs and the tabs fall off. The regular is great. Lately I can only find the regular at Toys R Us - Babies R Us only seems to carry the supreme kind lately. The Costco Kirkland brand is pretty good too.

Hi K.,
My little guy is now 2, but we have been using Huggies since he was in Stage 2. I love them and never have had a problem with them. I've tried all of the other brands and always go back to Huggies. I like the way they fit and they have a great wasteband. My second son is due at the end of the month and we plan on using Huggies for him as well. We use the more expensive Huggies until he's about a year, then switch to the regular Huggies becuase they're diapers are not as wet.
Good luck - if you are using diapers that you like, stick with them. I have a lot of friends with boys who use Pampers, I just prefer the Huggies.

Hi K.,
I have a 10 month old son and I have tried Huggies, Luvs and Pampers. I haven't had any problems with any of them, but I do prefer the Pampers Cruisers over the baby dry style. They seem to fit better, with less gapping. I also really like both lines of the huggies. The snug and dry ones (in the red and white packages) are really good for night and seem to hold a lot of moisture. When I use pampers or luvs at night, my son seems to soak through and ends up waking up from getting wet.
Hope this helps. I think it is really a matter of personal preference and trial and error! I usually get what is on sale and what I have a coupon for!

Hi K.,
This is a tricky question! Everytime my son was about to switch sizes I would try a few other brands just to check whether I could find a better and cheaper brand. I tried everything at the beginning, he's now 19 months old, and am now on Luvs. From size 1 to 4, I used Huggies Supreme. I felt that the waist tabs had a little more stretch in them. In that time, from size 1-4, I only had maybe 1 blowout (our fault). I kept trying Pampers on and off, because everyone told me how great they were, but they just didn't seem as comfortable to us. Again, fit and function will depend on your child.
I have since moved on to Luvs permanently because our BJ's carries them and he's done really well with them so far. They are much cheaper than the Huggies Supreme and more come in the bulk box. Also, it gets tiring after a while to try other brands. (any diaper swaps around?) At night I use the Huggies Overnights because my baby does tend to "pee" a great deal while sleeping over a 10 hour stretch and it has saved us from washing so many sleepers during the week. Hope this helps!

My son was born a preemie and the NICU used Pampers, so I decided to use Pampers too. He is now going to be 2 this month. (Can't believe that!) He has very delicate skin- poor kiddo inherited this from me. I tried some different diapers throughout the two years and he constantly broke out on every other kind except Pampers! I have read some of the other responses and for some it seems the opposite, so I would say that you should use whatever brand works best for you. I have not had too many blow outs with the Pampers except when he was on medicine that gave him the poops. Best of luck to you! Oh- also just in case you didn't know, it helps to diaper your child in the evening with one diaper size bigger than they usually wear during the day- it absorbs more and you usually don't have to change them during the evening if you are getting them to sleep through the night. This always seemed to work for us!

Well I have two boys and one girl and they've all been successful w/different diapers. My oldest son did well w/pampers until maybe sz 3 or 4 then I moved him to Huggies and that's the only brand I bought until he was out of diapers. My second son does fine w/pampers and huggies (although I do like pampers cruisers the best for him) and my daughter is fine only w/pampers cruisers.
I really don't understand the why some work and others don't but if Pampers are working for you then I would stick w/them. Maybe by a small pack of huggies when they're on sale and try them out. You'll find what your preference is.

Honestly - different diapers work on different kids (not really related to the child's gender). I have 2 boys. My first son wore huggies. He was a skinny little guy...and huggies run tighter than some other diapers. My second son had a bigger belly...and huggies were too tight. Pampers or luvs work well on him.
With boys - I find that you need to go up a size sooner than you do with girls. Has to do more with absorbancy issues than the child's size/ weight.
Hope this helps!

Hi :0)
I've been using Luvs for many months and the thing I like most about that brand is the leakcore. It works almost like a feminine pad where it traps the wetness and seals it away. They have a wonderful fit and plenty of protection around the legs so you don't have to worry about the blowout. That will happen from time to time with any diaper.
I started out using only the "best"-Pampers and Huggies and they both worked, but practically I grew to like Luvs much better for the above reasons. An added bonus: they are cheaper too!
Buy one package and give them a try at least. Good luck!

So then we finally ended up with pampers (of course the most expensive) and have had no problems since. With the baby i am expecting i hope to start with the cheaper brands again and only get to pampers if i have to!
One other thing - around 9 months he started to wake up soaking wet every morning so we use the huggies nighttime diapers at night and they are fabulous.

I have always heard that Pampers were better for boys and Huggies for girls - ironic! I have found Pampers to be a better diaper overall. I have a two year old boy and a nine month old girl. I tried both Pampers and Huggies in the beginning months of both children, and was always disappointed with the amount of leakages from Huggies.
However, on a budget-saving whim I tried the Costco brand (Kirkland) diaper and have found them to be so close to Pampers that I mostly buy those unless traveling or something.
