Stacey,
I hate that we don't have affordable health care. It's always good to have a physical first to see if there is anything causing this unbalance in chemicals first and treat if so. (Sleeping issues, thyroid problems, bipolar disease, etc., etc.)
If she's in Denton County, she can get help from the Denton County Mental Health and Mental Retardation. The intake number is 800 762-0157. They should be able to give counseling and meds on a sliding scale and determine the source (situational/chemical).
If not, you can call United Way or Catholic Charities who will guide you to free or low cost services.
If her first appointment is week's away, she may consider trying her family doctor for an antidepressant/anti anxiety pill to help her hold on. If it doesn't do well, tell her to call the doctor and he'll change it. But don't rely on meds alone or a family doctor to continue to do the best job and follow up the way they should.
Or, for temporary, she may find some help with some supplements like SamE for depression or Theanine for anxiety.
Either way, if symptoms get worse, call the doctor right away. Some meds do make things worse and need to be changed. Not good to stop some of them cold either!
As you suspect, this could be a bigger problem coming...
Pray that she could get a job with good health and mental health benefits.
Contact your state reps and demand that they seek out affordable health care for all.
