It took me over a year to get a normal period after going off the shot. Also, unless you are practicing abstinence, pregnancy is ALWAYS an "option".
Hi I have got the depo shot for about 2 years. I stopped receiving the shot between march and april . I still have not received my period. Is this normal? Can I get pregnant even though I havent had a period. I am using condoms but still would like to make sure that pregnancy is not an option at this time.

it may take a long time to get your period back, when i quit taking the shot it was almost 28 months before I got my period
I was on and off the Depo shot for about 10 yrs. and didn't get real periods back for a while everytime I went off. When I ended up pregnant with my daughter I was only spotting a little with out regular periods yets. My shot ran out at the end of Jan. and By April I was pregnant. I didn't think it would happen so quick. Everything said it could take most people up to a year after they stop the depo to get pregnant but that's definately not true LOL mine only took 3-4 mnths LOL So definately protect yourself. Hope this helps you out Good Luck
the shot will be in your system for at least 2 years, it takes along time for that to get out of your body, you might start getting a normal period maybe 6 months from now, maybe more, it was over a year before i got 1, and didnt have another for 3 more months, and it took 2 years to get pregnant. the depo shot stops ovalation, so you took it for 2 years, so you figure it will take a long time to get it out of your system and for everything to work like its supposed to. you might even experience menopause symptoms (hot flashes, etc,,,) just also look into the long term effects that the shot may have caused.
i now have premature ostoeperoisis, kidney stones, gall stones, tooth loss, my hair is fanally starting to grow, i have osteoartritis, just to name a few long time lasting effects from that shot.
i'm not a doctor so i can't be sure but i'm more then positive you do have a chance of pregnancy. I was on the shot for awhile after my daughter was born...but i my doctor took me off of it because i had hypothryroidism..anyway long story short...i didn't get my period for nearly two months and my doctor said that its normal when you go off the shot because the hormones are in your system for awhile..but you still have a possiblity of pregnancy.
Yeap, pretty normal. But if you are worried talk to a doctor for reassurance.
Your best bet would be to talk to your gyno. The only thing that is 100% effective is no sex or at least a condom. NOthing, not even birth control is 100% effective. There are small chances for pregnancy with any kind of birth control but nonetheless they are still there. Trust me I know, I am expecting my second child and I was on the pill. I would think that you should have started getting your period by now but everyone's body reacts differently. Just talk to your doctor and see what they have to say. Good luck!
hi D., it is very normal not to get your cycle after stopping the shot it takes awhile for it to get out of your system but also be very careful you can still get pregnant even without your cycle being normal or with any birth control my daughter who is 6 yrs old now is the result when i was on the depo shot my doctor said i'm not the only one who got pregnant while they was on the shot nothing is 100% effective unless you are obstaining from having sex believe me i learned the hard way i love my daughter to death and don't regret her being here god had plans for me and her and she is here for a reason but she just came at a time when we had 2 other children and was not ready for a third but everything worked out and life is great.
Depo is hard to predict. I was on it for 3 yrs and when I got off, my doc said 9-18 months to possible start my cycle again. Well I was trying for a baby so we didn't use protection so monthly I was taking a PG test just to be safe. Needless to say I go my period 6 months after getting off the shot. I then got pregnant 4 months later.
This is normal not to get your period due to being on the shot to a long time.
Play it safe, use protection if you are not trying for a baby.
I knew someone who wasn't careful and didn't know she was pregnant until 5 months in!!!
Better to be safe than sorry.
