I've had a sitter for the past 14 months, she's great! my son is now 16 months. I'm wondering if we should start looking for a daycare so my son can learn social skills? Did any of you moms have any transition problems when your child started daycare?

What can I do next?

If you can find a playgroup that would be better. If you choose to put your kid in a daycare they will learn skills both good and bad. If your kid tends to get sick easy even more so at a daycare. Yes, kids learn from their parents and adults not their peers.

Social skills are learned from adults not children. You teach your child to share, show empathy, apologize, etc... Children learn from us, not from each other. (Just my 2 cents)

If you have a private sitter that you and your son love -keep her at all cost. He will learn much more from one on one. If you are concerned with him making friends his own age, see if your sitter would be willing to join a mommy group. We have several nannies in our mommy group.

I have to agree with the other posters. Keep your sitter and get him into a play group. At most, I would enroll him in a mom's day out program or something just to give him a couple of days per week around other kids, but I don't know what your sitter would do during the time he's there. I feel like daycare isn't the best option if you can avoid it.
