I am needing some major help right now! My husband and I decided that I would stop taking "the pill" a few months ago. After I had my first baby and started regular birth control again after nursing, my body never really got used to the hormones again. I did fine on birth control before my pregnancy, but afterwards, I couldn't find one that worked well for my body. So, about 4 months ago, I stopped taking the pill, however, we have used a condom EVERY time since then.
My last period started on May 8th and was normal. But... nothing since then. I am now on my 44th day, and still nothing. I have taken 2 pregnancy tests (earlier this week), but they were both negative. I am so confused! I got a blood test today at my OBGYN, but it will be at least Friday before I get the results back!!! I am just hoping for some insight as to what's going on.
Was it too early for the pregnancy test to be accurate? Could my period be THIS late because of stress? Could my body still be adjusting to being off birth control this many months later? (Every month after I got off the pill, my period has been normal and right on time.)
If I'm not pregnant, what's going on?
Thanks so much!
Stressed-out-mama,
S.
P.S. We are NOT trying! I just quit my job to become a full-time student and finally finish my bachelor's degree at TWU!!! Our little girl, Emma is 20-months-old. Not that we wouldn't lovingly and joyfully welcome a new baby to our family, but we're just really nervous and confused as to what God might be doing with this timing... so much is uncertain right now.
P.P.S. I want to add that we are also stressing because we have great insurance, but no no maternity coverage! Are there options for pre-natal care for patients with no insurance? With our first, my husband had a different job and his insurance paid 90%. Now he works for a small, family-owned practice, and we were on our own for insurance, and we got what we could afford. This is really scary for me. I had to have an emergency c-section with Emma, so the chances of me having another one are great. And those bills were SO much!
OK! So, my doctor just called.... and... I'm NOT pregnant! The nurse said she was actually surprised, haha. But she does want me to go in and get checked out to see what's going on with my body. Thank you so much for all of your insight and encouragement. Watch, now that I won't be stressed about the possibility of being pregnant, my body will relax and I'll start tomorrow! :-)

I was in the same boat. My last period was in April and now I just started. I got worried through that whole time taking HPT about every 2 weeks. But I was also stressing with financial problems, kids, job, just about everything. So I would wait or go to the doctor.

I hereby vote that it is stress. If your weight has fluctuated 15 lbs or so, that can do it too. If you are pregnant, you may qualify for CHIP perinatal.

I feel your pain S.. I have not had a normal period since January due to stress. We have had contractor issues with our house and were trying to find a new church. Those two stressors combined have caused my cycles to be completely out of whack. I was going 45-50 days in-between cycles. I took a number of pregnancy tests thinking that I was pregnant. They all came back negative. After 2 months of not having a cycle, except for sporadic bleeding, I called my OB/GYN. They have put me on progesterone for a couple of months to regulate it. So far that has not worked either. Now my cycles last for about 2 weeks, but they are very light cycles. I'm hopeful that this will correct itself soon. It boggles my mind what stress can do to your body.

This happened to me recently as well. I've completely written it off to stress...
Stopped taking the pill. Had period. Next month. No period.. .Dr said it happens every once in a while.. .my body just decided to skip a month. I took test after test.. .nothing. Then, miraculously, the next month I was back to clockwork... strange...

Just hang in there! I am sorry you have to wait for your results, but try to relax. If it is anxiety that is preventing you from starting your period, then worrying about being pregnant is just adding to your problem. If you are pregnant, it does not mean that you have to stop your pursuit of your degree. It's amazing how your body and mind can step up to the plate when you need it to. Best wishes!
Sincerely,
A.

I agree it is stress. I think pregnancy test are pretty acurate these days even the doctors make you pee on stick. So if they are coming back neg. then you probably are not pregnant. To be on the safe side go to Planned Parenthood and get a blood test (might cost $35.00) and find out for sure. It would ease your mind and hopefully get your body back to normal again.

Good to hear that your not preg. but you may want to consider getting on something like Mirena to make sure you dont get preg. I had prob with the pill and had the mirena put in a few months ago...we had no plans to have another baby. Although that decision has now changed and we are going to try for one more in the next few months so i have to get the Mirna taken out.
But...I like you was late by OVER A MONTH! I apparently skipped a entire cycle and let me just say i had the Merina put in the week I started. Stess, sickness, loss of weight, antibiotics and illness can all cause you to be late.
Hope your monthly friend comes to visit you soon! We hate the darn things but freak out when they dont come huh!

I went 3 months without a period once and my OB swore that I HAD to be pregnant! It turned out that I had a HUGE ovarian cyst that had to be removed. Make sure that they do a sonogram to check out everything! Good luck! I hope it is just stress!

Hello S.,
just in case, take your pre-natal vitamins. get enough rest and try not to stress too much (I know, easier said than done) start a journal and write down what's going through your head. slow down a little for the next couple of days. Pray. It will be God's will. Have a wonderful day chasing your little one =) ~C.~
