Dawn vs Other Brands of Dishwashing Soap

Thanks to Pintrest I see all these crafting projects or homemade cleaning solutions to make. Over and over I see Dawn specifically listed, in some cases I even see it said that it works better than other brands. I've heard Dawn specifically mentioned in the past for various things as well. I know that they only use Dawn when cleaning animals after oil spills for instance.
But I wanted to ask "in real life". Is Dawn really better then other brands for things like making bubbles for the kids or mixing with Hydrogen Peroxide to make a stain remover or would anything work just as well?
Is this just a matter of branding? Like some people call all diapers "Pampers", laundry soap is all "Tide", and all tissues are "Klennex".
I don't buy Dawn. I buy a Trader Joes brand that is more natural ingredients. It's a much better price as well. But if it really does work better for things then I'm willing to pick up a bottle.
Thanks!

So What Happened?

Thanks ladies! Next time I'm out I'll pick up the Dawn. I am dying to try the stain remover which is 1 part Dawn and 2 parts Hydrogen Peroxide. I hope it saves one of my favorite shirts as nothing else has yet.

Nothing else works on grease and oil as well. (It also kills ticks and fleas)

I like Dawn the best. It really cuts through grease - that's why they use it on the wildlife after an oil spill.

Dawn has grease cutting agents like no other detergent so I think they are being specific for a reason.

Personally I believe the original blue dawn works better than the other formulations/scents/colors. You may also need to pay attention to whether the formulas call for original or "ultra". The ultra is much more concentrated. I believe bubble soap calls for the original as opposed to the concentrated formula.

"Dawn" isn't a generic name for dish soap. There are lots of brands that have been arround a lot longer. If the directions call for Dawn then I would use that brand.

Yes, Dawn does have something in it that is better at cutting grease than other brands. Hubby does most the the dishwashing in our house and he just said that's the only brand he wants.

My mother used Dawn and I could taste it on her dishes. It has a strong odor and I cannot stand it. I have used Palmolive for some time now but last month smelled the Gain dish soap. I am a fan of it now, it smells so fresh.

I think there are definantly pluses to finding what YOU like. If you like one kind and it cleans like you want then it is fine. All soaps work, all soaps clean.

Dawn (the plain, blue, original Dawn) does work differently than other dish soap. Other than the grease cutting qualities I can't explain the differences, but it is much different. If a "recipe" calls for Dawn I would use it. If they wanted any detergent it would simply say detergent.
