Cysts on Back of Infant's Head - Should I Worry?

i , too, found a bump on my daughter's head when she was a baby. of course I started thinking cancer, tumor!! Argh! It was a "dermoid cyst" and we did end up getting it removed, surgically, b/c our dr. said that it would eventually grow and could erupt. outpatient surgery; no biggie. we did wait, tho, til she was 15 months..not sure why. she was clueless tho. she just had a tonsillectomy and that was a bit harder b/c she was a little more fearful. good luck

My daughter had the same as Anne C. Our dr recommended a specialist. All results were good. Out patient. She came home and chased the dog. One thing you may want to ask your dr is to have them do some blood work to make sure red and white blood cell counts are ok.

If I was you I would just keep the Dr. updated. Just give the office a buzz if you notice any new ones springing up. If the Dr. feels it is getting serious (they start getting bigger, start multiplying, etc) he will order the neccissary tests to rule out anything that you need to worry about. I suggest staying calm but keeping an eye on them. Dr.s always give the worst case scenario so if he isn't worried I wouldn't be freaking out either. Just keep an eye on them and report major changes and it will turn out fine. Good luck!

I noticed the exact bumps on the base of my child's head/top of neck. When I noticed them, he had just one. After further checking, he had another one matching on the other side. I called the doc, same info from the nurse. At his 3 month checkup, I spoke with the doc and he told me they are lymphnodes. His son has them all the time and he said not to worry. My son is now 16 months old and still has one on one side of his neck. When he's sick it's bigger, but it is always there. Recently we had some blood work done and got his total blood count assessed due to a recent illness. The blood count came out totally fine, so this made me even less worried about the lymphnodes. ( I go into total panic and worry the worst alot of times) Don't worry about them. If your doc was even slightly concerned he'd send you to a specialist to check it out. Keep asking him to check them at checkups though for your peace of mind!
