Hey, does anyone else have naturaly curly hair? What do you do with it? I don't want to do a ponytail every day but its all that works right now. Does anyone have styles that are easy and fast but look a little more polished? Other than waking up earlier I don't know how I can manage to look decent.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks to all the "curlies" who responded. I trimmed five inches off the end and my husband didn't even notice! So much for keeping it long for him, huh? I found out that Pantenes Time Renewal is AWESOME. its one of those few that actually does what it claims. My hair doesn't feel like I've bleached the life out of it (I have) I'm also just making more effort to dry it instead of just pinning it up.

Hi H.! I have naturally curly hair and I've struggled with it for a long time. It's just been this past year that I've learned how to manage it with the help of my aunt (who's a stylist and owns her own shop in Fairborn). She cut it for me so it was shorter since my hair is fair and curls better that way with layers which shapes and allows the top to curl as well, and told me that if I just use some mousse and scrunch it will turn out everytime. And it's done wonders. You have to remember NOT to brush your hair after it's dry, apply the mousse while wet, preferably towel dried and BEFORE it starts to dry, and AIR dry. If you have to dry your hair, use a diffuser with the dryer on low and don't dry it all the way. A friend of mine also uses gel along with mousse and drys w/ a diffuser. It's a little difficult to manage curly hair, but once you get used to it, it'll be a peice of cake! I hope this helps!

P.S. I also use the Pantine Pro V Hydrating Curls collection. It took about a week for my hair to get to how I wanted it because of the switch, but my hair definitly curled better after the first day. I have shampoo, conditioner, mousse and the deep conditioning stuff. I hear the leave in conditioner is wonderful too, but I haven't tried it yet.

I have had naturally curly red hair my whole life. I two hated it as a child.
I don't have a lot of time in the morning as I'm a single mom, full time college student and work part time at a child care. Here's what I do.
I use one of three products: L'oreal Vive Pro curl care, Pantene Pro-v Curl care, or the new Sunsilk by Helene Curtis curl care line. They are all fairly cheap. I wash in the shower, then put conditioner in. I don't rinse the conditioner right away. I clean (body wash lol) then rinse the conditioner. Then, I use a pick when I get out to pick through the tangles... which I battle because my hair is all the way down to my behind. Anyway, I pick it through wet, slap on some gel, any curl care gel, and extra hold hair spray, right now I'm hooked on Aussie's hi-hold/hi-shine spray... and I go. It dries naturally, and looks great all day. I get comments every day on how long it is, how curly, lol. :) Hope this helps!

I have curly hair. I did pony tails for a long time till a friend told me to try that sunsilk shampoo and conditioner and it doesn't take the curls out but it controls it so you can leave it down without looking like you stuck your finger in a light socket. You can also use a straitner and get rid of your curls. Then there is alway's bobby pins where you can do a quick pin up of your curls. This is what I do I hope this helps.

Hi H.. There are lots of decent products out there. One of the best line of products I have tried is Ojon (www.ojon.om) and you can find it at some hair salons. I usually buy it online or at BeautyFirst stores. It's a bit pricey, but you use most products sparingly and it lasts for a long while. The products are really good!! I hope this helps. I hope you find what your looking. Have fun.

I also have natually curly hair. I have just recently switched shampoos. I was using the fuctis but switched to the new Herbal Essence Totally Twisted shampoo and conditioner. I have been using it for a couple of months and my hair is finally how I like it. I also use styling curls by L'oreal. I only wash my hair every other day so it doesn't dry out as much. It only takes my 10 minutes to do my hair in the morning which is great because I also have to get my three and five year old ready.

Good luck and remember that women pay hundreds of dollars to have our hair.

Hedi,
Hello I also have naturally curly hair. Some days I hate it. My mother in law who has poker straight hair and pays hundreds for perms reminds me how lucky I am HA HA ! Anyway heres my tips If you have thick hair you can try just about anything my sister(also curly but WAY thicker than mine) loves something by bedhead. I have very thin hair and I have gone through about 1 million diffrent my new favorite is Sunsilk. I NEVER put conditioner on the roots just the ends only ( a trick my hair stylist taught me)I worked at P&G in the shampoo lab and we tested all kinds. Every persons type did differ. If you want more advise email me direct answer these: how curly? thick or thin? short or long? how important is lather? what type of styling products do you use after washing?
Good Luck

I have naturally curly hair and have spent years trying to find a style that I could do anything easy with beyond the standard ponytail. Recently we moved and I found a new hair stylist that has been a godsend for me. She encouraged me to go with a just past shoulder length cut with some layers (just long enough layers to still pull back if I want) rather than the "all one length" style I had done for too long. My three main hairstyles with this cut are: classic ponytail, pulled back in a hair clip with some hair falling naturally around to frame my face (this is the "out of my way, but more stylish than a ponytail" look), and the last style is down with a touch of mousse to tame the fly-aways. For that last style I simply run a wet detangler comb through my dry hair to get the tangles out but not frizz it out then add a bit of mousse (I use Tresemme "Flawless Curls" curl enhancing mousse) the layers in my hair help it to lay nicely in a more stylish look than with it all one length. I would say that your most important factor in finding an easy hairstyle with any type of hair is a good stylist that you trust for help!! Hope this helps!

I'm another H. with curly hair even! :) Mine is thin, so our methods may vary, but I had issues with the Fructis someone else mentioned...just took the curls and almost killed them, making my hair one big frizzy pile. I do love and daily use Frizz Ease. Also, if you can get away with it, wash it less. My friend has a thick head of curly hair and she only uses conditioner, not shampoo. Sounds gross, but believe me, she's clean as a whistle. We both definitely enjoy and utilize some of the advice is this Curly Girl book:

H.,

John Frieda's Frizz-Ease is great for curly hair! If you've never used it before, try two squirts in the palm of your hand, spread around in palm, then scrunch it through washed, damp hair like you would moose. Then work it through better. The trick is to spread it through your hair evenly and not to get too much in one spot. There are light, regular, and super formulas.

Have you tried pulling a small section of hair back on the side of your face (temple) with a small/medium haircomb-one that's not too gaudy? What about a narrow, cloth, stretch head band, but don't pull your hair tight, fluff it up around the headband.

(I've tried the Fructis, but it makes my hair worse. It is true that some of the expensive salon shampoos and conditioners work well, but if you keep trying the store brand alternatives, you might find one that works like those. Look at the ingredients. I've tried lots of anti-frizz products, but it's the dimethicone that works. If I use the Frizz-Ease, I can use any shampoo.)

HI H.,

I too, have very naturally curly hair. I am letting my grow for a wedding I'm in next May. I too, hate it really. What I have found to be somewhat managable for me is to wash it every other day. The day that I wash it, I just pull my bangs back and then slightly push them forward and stick w/ a couple bobby pins and then the rest of my hair hangs and is down all day. The days I don't wash it, I brush it w/ a pic, and then pull it back like I'm putting in a pony tail and then twist it and clip it so that its more then just a ponytail.
I did find that the best shampoo and conditioner (so its not frizzy) is that fructis (sp?) in the green bottle. Its the ONLY shampoo (besides expensive salon ones) that works best for me and keeps it soft and nono-frizzy!!

Good Luck!

I use Infusium 23. It's a bit pricey, but you can usually get the best price at Wal-Mart. As much as I hated curly hair as a kid....I love it now. I do have to wash it every day, but then I spray some gel (herbal essence spray gel) and it's good to go. I can leave it down, braid it, pony tail....it holds all styles. There's also another product called "silk therapy", it's a little pricier, but a bottle goes a long way. I save that for when I really want to manage my hair.

I don't know when you shower, but I use Paul Mitchell's "Extra Body Sculpting Foam" on wet hair -- I can either blow it dry or let it dry on it's own and it usually turns out pretty good. I have used it in my hair when it's dry and it works that way too, but you have to use A LOT when you do it this way and it makes it pretty stiff. My hair is cut in a layered "Bob".

It gets pretty frizzy if I don't do anything to it and today I took my son to the doctor to get his flu booster (which we didn't get -- after waiting an hour, it didn't look like our wait was going to get any shorter so we rescheduled) but anyway...I had my hair in a pony tail and this little boy came up to me and said "what's wrong with your hair??" -- Luckily we can laugh at the honesty of children. Good Luck!!
