Crying over Spilt Milk

So I'm not really crying over spilt milk but I do have a spilt milk catastrophy. While traveling back from visiting my parents (approx. a 2 1/2 hr car ride) my daughter threw her milk on the floor. I'm sure you know where this is going. After getting home late, putting her to bed, and forgetting about everything else until the next day it was just to late. The milk soaked into the carpet. I have tried to clean it but the smell is overwhelming. Does anyone have any cleaning suggestions or should I just send my car to be cleaned? Thanks

What can I do next?

Try renting the Rug Doctor with the upholstery attachment from Publix. That thing works great and it's really easy to use!

They sell an enzyme cleaner at pet stores under different brand names (one is called Nature's Miracle) that is great at getting rid of biological stains--including milk--just pour it on and the enzymes to their thing--
there are no harsh chemicals and it's sasfe on carpet--I use it all the time--it gets both the stain and the stink out!

Nothing absorbs odors like baking soda. After you clean the spot really well, let it dry, then sprinkle baking soda over it. Let that sit for a while to absorb the smell, then vaccum up. Another option is something like Pet Fresh that is a scented baking soda based sprinkle used as described above. I used that to get rid of the smell after my daughter got sick. Worked perfectly.

That has happened to me before as well...I just cleaned it with laundry detergent and also used the spot cleaner "Spot Shot" (you can get it at Walmart. It comes in a spraypaint looking container and has an orange top). It worked ok. I also sprayed my car with Febreeze for a few days. Hope that helps.

Hi J.,
just read your message and my husband sells a product called "Odor Out Ultra" You can read some information under www.nanocoatingsintl.com. He uses it for his shoes ;-) and it really works. If you are interested in this product just let me know and I'll send it to you.

J.- my son did the same thing. Nothing's worse than the smell of milk that's soaked into your car's carpet!! It smelled so bad that I took it to the car wash, but when the guys there told me that it would basically be a detailing job and would take a long time and would be expensive, I decided to try to clean it myself. I used Resolve carpet cleaner and then aired the van out all day. Believe it or not, it worked! It doesn't smell anymore. I should probably get the carpets cleaned anyway for stains, but I think I'll wait till we have extra money... like when the boys have graduated from college... :0)

i have this happen to me, but mine is because of those spill proof sippy cups. i have a little bissel green machine for this but i bet you could improvise. mix you up a solution of cleaner in some kind of bottle take it with you to a carwash and use those vaccuum's they have, they suck up water. maybe you know someone with a shopvac you could borrow. i'd let you borrow my green machine but your too far away. its actually loaned out right now. i use alittle gain mixed in with water. i dont by the cleaners in the store for my green machine. the gain works fine.

LOL I think you are going to have to suck it up and take the car to get shampooed. At this point you are going to need the vacuum/water mix to get it out of the lower parts of the carpet-where the true funk is forming!

I can't remember what it was but my kids spilled something on the seat once and the smell would not come out. The car wash detailers were able to give me a lower rate for just the seat, instead of the whole car. I have also seen just west of Colonial and 417 a car wash place that has a self-service car shampoo machine, next to their regular car vacuums- not sure how much it is/how well it works, but its worth a shot if you are in the area.

Good luck!
