Let's share tips and ideas about how to save money during this crisis time; nobody knows where the gas situation is going, so we better be creatives in order to save money here and there; I found an incredible joy and peace in being a little frugal.
I'd like to lern about your ideas and I'll share some of my favorite ways to save.
Let's be creatives and let's share our experiences.
1. I bought a $ 7.00 garage rope at Big Lots, and we are hanging 80% or our clothes in our closed garage; it's an endless source of heat and dryes fast; of course takes time and the clothes are a little "less soft" that coming from the dryer, but our energy bill came $ 90.00 less than a year ago. Also running to dryer machine, makes your house a little more warm, wich means more A/C.
2. Instead of renting movies, we pic some every week at our local library.
3. I cancelled all our magazine subscriptions and I still get my favorites, a month later, in our library, paying only 10 cents (from de recycling table).
4. No more bottled water. We just got a Britta filter, some nagging bottles (safe and no residuos), and being a large family, we are saving over $ 50.00 a month.
5. Cheaper paper plates, bought in bulk, save in water, soap and electricity, (paper is biodegradable); I used to run my dishwasher machine 4 times a week and now, once every 3 days.
Well, hope it helps somebody out there trying to save a little money and I'd love to lern more about your all ideas.
I bought a plastic tub from the dollar store that fits into my kitchen sink. Now I fill the tub instead of the sink which uses less water. Also, I throw the dirty dish water into my flower beds...especially when we are on watering restrictions.
Maybe gross but...we don't flush the toilet every time we use it.(unless it is...um, you know)...I'm pregnant and go every five minutes anyways.
I cover my west facing windows with foam boards to keep the heat out.
We use grocery bags as trash bags for our small trash cans

We are not doing anything special or changing our routines. I have a large pantry and I keep it well stocked with staples, we turn lights off when we leave a room, we keep the thermostat around 78 and don't change it. We think it is better to keep the thermostat consistant. We keep the gas tanks on the cars full. Those are things we have been doing all along.
I think the one thing I have changed is that my dry cleaner makes delivery to my home now and that saves about an hour of my time twice a week. My time is worth a lot to me.
Our yard is very large and we have areas that will hold moisture to protect our trees specifically designed for holding moisture.
I think there is too much hype about going green and plastics. Guess I will get hate mail for that remark but I feel it is blown out of proportion.

we are trying to stay at home more (avoiding unnecessary trips to the mall just to get out of the house); doing a better job at combining errands
my husband works from home most of the time so we don't waste gas -- and he tries to carpool when he does go in
water my lawn less (we still have a similar watering schedule that we had during the restrictions)
buy "green" products (that doesn't always save money, but they are worth it to me)
buy more things in bulk so we don't have to go to the store as much
keep the AC at 80 during the day (it's hard to do sometimes for me b/c I am a SAHM)
not cool the house off as much for night time sleeping
we compost most of our food scraps so most of our trash is diapers and packaging
we switched out all our light bulbs a while back to CFL's
wash most clothes in cold water (just sheets, cleaning rags, and soiled baby stuff in hot -- I don't want germs/bugs hanging around on those things)
good idea on the clothes line. I had never thought of putting one in the garage.
