I heard goo gone works wonders....
A crayon got in the dishwasher. Now the interior is waxy and purple. How can I get the stains and wax out. I will hand wash the dishes in hot soapy water. Can I put regular soap to break down the wax in the dishwasher. We don't want to buy a new one, ours is only a few years old.

Try Tang (the orange flavored drink). Put it in the inner and outer cup, like you would with detergent and run it on the hottest cycle you can. That's what I used to use to remove the brown mineral stains from having hard water. It worked like a charm! If it doesn't, you'll at least have something you can drink later! Good luck!
I would run it on pots and pans cycle with both cups full of regular dishwasher detergent and the hottest cycle. Also add about a cup of regular household bleach-the extra chlorine will boost the cleaning power of your detergent. Then run a cycle of plain hot water.
If you're afraid of using bleach keep in mind that dishwasher detergents and bleach contain sodium hypochlorite as active igredients. As a side effect your dishwasher will be sanitised of bacteria.
Don't use regular soap! The foaming action will create more suds and will run out of the unit as the bottoms of the door are not sealed so that they have ventilation-I found out this the hard way when I had my first dishwasher many years ago and ran out of dishwasher detegent and decided to use my regular dishsoap. At least my kitchen floor got a good cleaning-lol!
Try wiping the inside ther dishwasher with vinegar..that should break down the wax of the crayon. Then do a cycle of the dishwasher with your regular dishwasher soap without any dishes to get out any vinegar residue before running a load of dishes. Good luck!
Ugh, hope I got to you in time. What type of crayon? If it's crayola, I understand they have a whole database of answers to crayon problems. I'd call the manufacturer first because sometimes chemicals can cause problems. We tried cleaning an ink stain in our carpet with detergents only to find out it was removable but the chemicals effectively burned it into the carpet.
Good luck. My sister's twins ran red and green crayola crayons down the hallway, steps and into the family room... all carpeted. She freaked, but then found that when you call Crayola they have a menu system to help people figure out how to remove the crayons. It worked great and she got all the crayon residue out (lots of elbow grease though).

WD40. The stuff works miracles. It took the crayon out of my dryer and the playdough off the carpet so it should work in the dishwasher. Spray on and wipe off and run the washer once through to remove the residue and you should be good to go.
