Hi again ladies! My 9 month old daughter has recently started crawling very weird on her hands. She has been crawling since she was 6 months old but recently started crawling on her hands like Apes do. Sometimes she will crawl fists down, but what is worrying me is when she curves her hand out, to where her thumb is facing out the opposite way and she is literally crawling on the tops of her hands. It is the weirdest thing and I do not want her hands to get permantely damaged. I called the Pediatriction and they should be calling back soon. But, have any of you had your infant do that? It just makes me nervous.
Thanks moms!

What can I do next?

It is hard to picture....I would video it, just for fun / posterity, as suggested. I don't know that your question is necessarily about crawling but use of her hands??? My 4th child used to turn his hands backwards(palms out/up): when holding the breast, when pushing up, when beginning to crawl, etc.... it concerned me a little, I'd constantly turn them around, he'd flip them back. As he developed he used his hands well - he'd three and full of skills! Now, I have a 5th child, she turns one hand in like he did - weird. I am not at all concerned because I've seen it now, but we sometimes can't help turning her hand over - THE RIGHT WAY!! :D They all have their little quirks, perfectly normal for them, just odd to us - enjoy!

I've seen many kids crawl wierd. Or even drag themselves wierd when the should be crawling. I wouldn't be concerned.

Enjoy and if you can tape it for the future. Your daughter will love to see it.

My son didnt crawl much but when he did, he would close his hands into a fist and crawl like that. I dont think its anything to worry about.

I wouldn't be concerned...I think most babies have their own way of getting around. My son looked like a fish out of water when he first started crawling..Imagine someone swimming the butterfly stroke and then put them on land -- that is exactly how he crawled. Both hands and arms straight over his head, then planted on the floor and pulling himself along while kicking his feet to help propel him. It was the craziest crawl I had ever seen. It morphed into the typical crawl a month or two later...He is now two and walking and running and jumping like any other toddler. I think that in the beginning they do whatever they can and whatever works best for them to get around.

C. one of my nephews only crawled army style. He is fine and there is nothing wrong with his hands. If it was hurting your daughter she wouldn't be doing it.

My son does this. I think it is easier for him to carry things while he crawls. He's been doing it for months, o problems.
