My little one just really started to crawl this week (so exciting, yet she is keeping me very busy; another life changing event!). Her poor little knees are so red; is this normal? I know I can but knee pads, is there anything else I can do to help the redness (they do not seem to bother her ;))?

I have a 9 month two week old daughter and have the same problem. I find if I put her in pants ever couple of days it help her knees a bit. I know it's hot out right now since it's summer but I only do it every once in a while to help the recover a little.

It was the same with my daughter. I put some lotion on her legs to help, but otherwise, it wasn't bothering her so I didn't worry about it too much. Keep in mind, VERY QUICKLY, your child will get better at crawling and will lift her legs enough off the floor that she shouldn't get rug burn anymore. Plus her legs will toughen up more too.

My daughter was the same way when she started crawling. The redness didn't last that long, but when it ocurred, I'd constantly keep baby lotion on her legs and knees. The redness never seemed to bother her either, she more excited by the fact she could get around on her own!!

I found "skid pant leggings" in a magazine yesterday and thought they would be cool for when my daughter starts crawling....you can find them at www.dittanybaby.com....they are $12.00 and they have different colors and patterns.....kinda neat....

I've been using Eucerine cream on my daughter's knees. It seems to help the same way as during the winter when her cheeks were chapped.

If you don't want to purchase knee pads, I have seen/heard of others that have taken old socks and cut little bands out of them to use as knee protectors.

We used lots of lotion, the good thick stuff when they got too red and tried to have her wear a lot of capri pants to offer her knees some protection.

you could take old socks and cut off the feet on them...instant knee pads.
