Cramps and Soreness During and After Sex

I wrote a post several days ago saying that I was experiencing some spotting right after my period. I did go see my OB this week and she did an ultrasound and said everything was fine. Of course I forgot to ask her if an ultrasound can pick up ovarian cysts. I also had a pap smear done several months ago and the results were normal too.

Just last night and 2 nights ago, I noticed that I had some cramps and soreness during and after sex. It was pretty bad that I wasn't enjoying it at all to the point where I almost want to stop. I was holding my stomach the whole time thru sex. The next day the soreness was still there and at times would even go up to my rib cage. I didn't get a chance to talk to my OB yet as it's Sunday now and I wanted to see if any ladies out there have experienced this before and would like to know what's going on.

I do want to add that I am ovulating this week and I am 36. I never spot or have cramps during ovulation before so that's why I am concerned.

Thanks.

What can I do next?

Have your OB/GYN check you for Endometriosis and sexually transmitted diseases - I know - but stuff happens.

Sex should NOT be painful. I don't know how old you are - but it's possible you could be "drying up" and that will experience pain during sex.

Make sure you make an appointment long enough with your dr. make sure you have a list of all your ailments - pain during sex, spotting AFTER your cycle, etc. this way - she can put all the pieces together instead of one here and one there.

Take care!! Don't let this go. I know some may be shocked about STDs but it's an unfortunate fact of life - bad stuff happens to good people.

I am not a doctor but this sounds like it could be Endometriosis. I have been dealing with it for 20 years and the first signs for me were as you described. Yes it can and may be something else so you really do need to talk to you Ob/Gyn about this.

What you are describing sounds like pains that I used to get , and these pains were during ovulation , I always knew when I was ovulating from the pain and discomfort , if you count back could it be that time for you? After I had my 3rd child the pain during ovulation stopped which I am very glad about , but also do speak to the OB about this aswell just to make sure.

If this is a sudden new thing I'm also wondering about cysts too. I would think endometriosis would have shown up more slowly, but I really am no expert.

I don't know if ultrasound picks them up, but I do know that once years ago I had terrible pain. I went to the doc and he examined me feeling a large cyst about the size of a lemon. A couple of nights later I was doubled over in pain. When I went back to the doc a few days later the cyst was gone......it has expelled itself and been painful in the process.
