Hi Moms - little bit of a personal questions, but i'm sorta outta ideas. I went to the doctor a couple of months ago, because i was having some cramping/pains in my ovaries - almost like menstrual cramps. they took an ultrasound and nothing abnormal showed up. the past two weeks, i've been having the same pains. I deal with pain very well, but i have been very uncomfortable, cramping in the same areas (both sides) and just above my pubic bone. Does anyone thing i should be concerned? what could cause this? i don't know if i should go to the doctor's again, because last time nothing came up, but i also don't want to overlook a problem if there is one. Please help!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thank you all - again - for all your thoughts and advice. I went to the doctor's yesterday and had an ultrasound done. The tech, who performed all my ultrasounds, for both my kids, told me there was a LOT of fluid in my ovaries, which is a little abnormal, even if I were ovulating. She didn't expand much further, but told me she was going to give the results/report and pictures to the doctor and have him take a look. She said if he was concerned about it, he would call and arrange an appt. otherwise, i can just wait to go to my annual, in september, to discuss everything. I am in a lot of pain all week, and especially yesterday and today, but hopefully we'll be able to figure this all out soon. I will let you all know if anything comes of it...Thanks again for everything Moms! You guys are all awesome! and this site is a dream come true :D

Hi S.,

I had similar pains in what I thought was my ovaries and went to the doctor. They did a pap and told me that my limpnoids were swollen. It was nothing serious, they said that it was a way for my body to fight off an infection. It finally went away after a couple of weeks. Don't know if you have the same thing......... but hopes this helps. Good Luck!!

WOW! I had a similar pain while in Junior and High School, doctors would tell my parents - i pulled a muscle or it was all in my head. I would even go to the E.R I fainted due to the pain. I was told it was to seek attention as well, they tried sending me a counselor several things. I had numerous test done I mean numerous -- many times I felt like a rat lab --- no cyclist, no pregnancies, then i was told once i got married or became sexually active that would go away. Well unfortunately i got use to the pain, life went on. I married at 24 and became sexually active at the time ( I am 31 now) and still I have the pain ---- I have this wonderful OBGYN who says I have PID but that is some source of STD my husband and I where each others first -- so that is not it i just now cope and have learned that making tea helps so much! I put water to boil and put a small pice of ginger and a cinnamon stick, and that for what ever reason helps with the pain, helps sooth for a couple hours...

Hi S.,
I'm sorry you've been having so much pain. My acupuncturist really helped me with my menstrual cramps and other problems. Her name is Catherine Aquino and she is in Toluca Lake but perhaps she can recommend someone in your area. Her number is ###-###-####. Her website is tcmaquino.com or aquinotcm.com. Can't remember which. Hope this helps. Good luck:)

To be blunt, it's hard to tell exactly where your pain in coming from because you have so many organs in such a tight space. Its easy to mistake digestive pain for reproductive pain. Keep going to the doctor until they find the cause-it may be nothing, but its important to know for sure.

Hi S.,
Have you been charting your cycle? If you do this will help you to determine why this is happening. I would experience the same twinging pain you described and it would happen when I was ovulating. There is a great book called Taking Charge of Your Fertility by Toni Weschler that helps to explain what your body is experiencing in great detail at different parts of your cycle. It may prove helpful for you.
If the pain becomes extreme I would seek out another opinion from a reputable Ob/Gyn.

Yes keep going to doctor until they find out what is causing it. I had trouble with mine but mine was usually when I had my monthly. And I would have to go to bed I hurt so bad. And it wound up being a bad infection I had to have for four years and I had been to doctors. Make them check it out. But like I say mine when mostly when I was on my monthly. And when it got bad it felt like I had to use the bathroom and could'nt and it wound up being ahesions from a infection and wound up having an historectomy. I had went to doctors even. Make them find out what is causing the pain. Don't give up. I'm not trying to scare you. I don't wish no one to have pain like I did at the last when they finally found out what was wrong. Have them do a microscropic in your belly button to find out if they have to it's a out patient surgery and I did'nt hurt after words, but they did find out what was wrong. Please make them find out what is causing the pain.

Hi S.-

I am so sorry that you are in pain. That is no fun. I can only say that if I were in your situation, I would press my doctors to run more tests and figure out what is going on. You can't go on in pain forever. I hope the doctors can figure it out and you feel better.

I was having similar pains like what you are describing about 10 years ago. I underwent laproscopic surgery as the doctor suspected that I might have endometriosis, however it was determined that I had PCOS (polycistic ovarian syndrome) and that the BC I was on was too strong and causing me to have the pains. You might want to look into that.

The doctor changed my BC to Othro Novom 777 and the pains went away. I do have a hard time getting pregnant but other than that there is no real problems that I experience anymore.

A little about me:

I am a 28 year old mama of 1 beautiful son age 15 months. He's my sunshine.

Hi S. - I just want to say that I sympathize with you - I have had the same problem for several months now and have had 2 ultrasounds and countless pelvic exams, etc. Still no answers or explanations. It's on both sides (sometimes one side at a time, sometimes both) and it comes and goes, but I also have menstrual cramps throughout my entire cycle (pretty much every day). I recently started using Emerita progesterone cream 2x a day (under advisement of my acupuncturist and OK'd by my OB) and though I have seen marked improvement, the problem persists nonetheless. Perhaps your OB might want to consider that as a treatment for you? Good luck and I am sorry that I don't have any better answers for you. If you have ruled out cysts then it might just hormonal (which I suspect is my problem) in which case, it's nothing life threatening, but it is certainly uncomfortable and annoying. I hope you find some answers - please post them if you do! All the best -Suzanne

I get pains when I ovulate. Is the pain constant or only a once a month? Did they do an internal ultrasound? Or only external? On the internal the ovaries can be seen much better. I had a cyst on my right ovary a couple of years ago, my doc treated with BC and it went away in a month. I didn't have pain but a good friend of mine had one at about the same time and she was in a lot of pain. I would have another ultrasound done, maybe they missed it the first time.

Hi! Sorry you are in pain! I have been working with Women's Health via Holistic Health Care for over 14 years...
This could be serious or nothing really, but the ultrasound was a good idea because usually if it is a cyst or something it will be seen and it will often only affect one side.
I have had patients that were able to resolve odd, "everything is normal" pain like this with Acupuncture and Massage, on many occasions.
Recently though, one of my patients who sees me for another reason developed vaginal and ovarian pain, upon questioning her I was quite sure it was not anything serious, but to be safe advised a GYN visit...AND highly rec'd she see her Chiropractor first to see if there was a low back/sacral misalignment that was pinching nerves. She called me the next day and was thrilled because the pain was gone completely arter the Acupuncture and one Chiropractic Treatment.
Hope this helps.

Here are some ideas that might be the cause of your pain:

Ovulation- This can in fact be JUST as painful as menstration.

Endometriosis (Endo)- can ONLY be Dx through laparoscopy, which is surgery in which they insert a camera into your abdominal cavity. Endometriosis is a condition where tissue similar to the lining of the uterus (the endometrial stroma and glands, which should only be located inside the uterus) is found elsewhere in the body. It causes pain during ovualation and extreem pain during mestration. It is also know to cause heavier periods. Here is a link to info on Endo: http://www.endometriosis.org/endometriosis.html

Of course there is the possiblity that you are having pains near the ovaries, but not at them.

S.,

Sometimes the pain you describe can be ovulation when the egg is released from the ovary. Usually, it only occurs on one side and tends to alternate from month to month. If your are mid-cycle, I might think you are ovulating first.

Good Luck

I would go to the chiropractor. Sometimes when I get little pains like that it just means something is out in my back. If you don't use chiropractic, you'd be surprised how something that seems as though it wouldn't be related to aligning bones actually is related. If that still doesn't work, go back. If it wasn't an internal ultrasound definitely get one! Good luck!

It sure sounds like endometriosis! I have that and the only way they can diagnose it is by laproscopy surgery. It is quite painless, the surgery that is.
I have it and I also have had most of it removed. But it came back. If you have it your doc may give you birth control to stop your periods.

Hi S.,

I'm sorry I don't have any real advice about this. Do you think it could be the pains that you can get sometimes about 1/2 way through your cycle? I can't think of the term. If it's not that, then I would definitely at least call the doctor and tell him/her that you are still having the cramping. Have you been having dietary difficulties along with it (like gas/ diarrhea, etc.)? If so, then maybe they're connected. If not, I just don't know.

It is your body and you know when there is something wrong. So go to the doctor and have it checked when you have the pain that way they have a better chance of finding something. THere are too many things that can go wrong with our woman goodies, so better to be safe than sorry. Think about your medical history and what problems there were there with your mom, grandma ect. That way you can talk to your doctor about it when you are there with that pain.
Don't be afraid to go back to the doctor for the same thing. It might have been something they could not see the last time.
Good luck and God Bless
B.

Hi S.,

I don't know how severe the pain is, but because they did the ultrasound and nothing came up, I can only suggest that you might be having a little bit of blood getting into your fallopian tubes sometime during your cycle. It happens to me, but the pain is only on one side at a time and it fluctuates from side to side, for obvious reasons. You might want to get a second opinion and another ultrasound from a different gynecologist.
