Comcast vs Att

We had ATT DSL when we lived in the city and loved it. We were 3 buildings away from a hub station though so our speed was very fast, faster than comcast actually. We moved to the burbs a year ago and ATT was not an option due to service area so we went with comcast ( I hate them, had many problems with them when we lived in the city. Well our bundle expired and now our bill has gone way up. ATT knocked on our door and said they just layed new fiber optic cables and service is now available in our area. I am looking for anyone who has the bundles thru ATT and what has been your experience. I know about their phone and internet, but not about their U verse. I have called them and can save $70-80 a month, but before I switch would like some opinons from current mama users of ATT. I tried to get comcast to lower their price but got the company line of "we know it is hard times and if that's what you need to do".........(they did tell me that I did have a ten dollar discount but that was all they could do)
Any help would be appreciated

Thanks

We have At&t Uverse. We never had cable before because it was so expensive just for basic channels. We finally decided to try out uverse, after we cancelled blockbuster.
The service is great, we have been really happy. Of course, I do not have cable to compare to, but we love being able to record shows, etc. It's nice for saving kid movies too.
As far as installation goes, here's my thoughts. Figure out before hand where you want things to be.
They will install one main box, that is the brains of the setup. I believe it has to be connected to your outside phone box with a phone cable. It can be anywhere in your house. We chose to put it in the finished basement, so it's out of the way. They mounted a stick on phone box to the wall, which we will change later. That hooks into the brain I think. Our computers happen to be right above that spot upstairs, and the jack is right there too.
The installers use ethernet cables that already have the plug head on the end that goes into the wall/computer. They may suggest you use wireless usb to connect to your internet. They provide them too, I believe as part of the service. Because they are uverse-only installers, they don't have all the same tools as the regular service and repair guys/gals.
We wanted phone cords/ethernet cords. We have easy access to the basement ceiling, so my husband pre-drilled holes (big enough for the ethernet plug to fit through) that they could run cables to the upstairs through. (We already had installed ethernet ports with our phone jack at the computer area.) You might be able to do something similar near existing jacks/cable outlets. If you're cable system uses cat 5, as far as tv goes, they should be able to hook right up to that (the incoming cable/uverse) and your tv's should work fine.
If you have a friend who is handy with electrical/phone stuff, see if they can take a look. It will make the job go quicker, and you will have better control over where the wiring will be. I hope that these installers are doing better now that the service has been out a while.
If you have any problems, you can call and have them come back. Our neighbor had a defective tv box, and they brought him a new one within a few days.
All of our other neighbors (4) have it now too, the last one yesterday.
You might also check their website, because I thought there was a diagram of how it all works.
I hope that helps. It's not really complicated, but it takes them some time to install, they will program the remotes for your tv's, and everything should be working when they are done.
good luck

We have AT&T DSL. I have no problems with it but I am not an avid computer/internet user. No issues with speed, etc. We don't bundle though. Don't forget to see when their bundle prices expire too. Good luck.

Hi L., I second your opinion... Comcast is the worst. We switched to WOW (Wide Open West) and so far so good. I feel they all have their own "glitches" but the customer service at WOW has been by far the best.

We have Att & t and have had great service. They even sent us a cell phone (to use for free) when the phone lines were not ready for our house when we moved in, which was the builders fault not theirs!
We do not have the fiber optic line yet, but will bundle that when it comes. We currently bundle, home phone, internet and cell phones.

I have comcast - att uverse is coming to our neighborhood. I tried to set up an install, but no one at att knew what they were doing. I want the same phone lines as before. After 35 min. on the phone - transferred 5 times - I don't trust them to do the job right. I sell kitchen tools in my home based business and need my phone. I am not going to switch for right now.

I had Comcast for thirteen years, then switched to AT AND T.They surprised me with a rate hike for the internet service and our bill was outrageous. I switched back to comcast and we got what I thought was a bundle (thinking it was 99 dollars a month and we pay upwards of 146 a month with digital voice. What on earth is Digital voice anyway? I had dropped my AT AND T long distance service, which we need for a variety of reasons and put long distance on my Comcast plan. We still save some money but not what I thought we would. The dish would go out anytime it rained or the wind blew, but doesn't with cable. I think the moral of the story is everything is about equal in the long run depending what you actually desire. Don't however be swayed by those wonderful stories of savings. AT and T charged extra for all their equipment and the return was difficult. But I have both phone services now as our area is required to keep it due to our water bill being read through AT AND T why I don't know. They do have a better long distance package if you put it with internet and cable. However, we find those cheaper with Comcast. See what I mean? Kind of just balancing out your choices.OH and Comcast up until recently (not sure at the exact moment) never had contracts. AT and T does and you have to pay a big fee if you drop their package before the contract is up.I really don't know about the U Verse... But perhaps this will help just learning a little more about our dealings with both.

For 10 years I had At&T phone service, and I was for the most part happy with them. I moved last year and did not have a home phone until my daughter was born in August 2008. I called AT&T and set up service and within one week I had cancelled them! They have the worst customer service I have ever seen. I called them on two different occassions to make a change and both times was kept on hold for more than an hour and a half. Never able to talk to a human being! I now have Comcast phone and I am happy with them. All I can say is do not go with AT&T. Nothing but headaches! Good Luck to you.
