So What Happened?

Hi ladies, I will talk to my OB on Monday about it. I have been drinking coffee, taking milk of magnesia, taking fiber pills, eating raisan bran and shredded wheat, pretty much everything and nothing is working. She told me to go to E.R because it's been so long but I can't get myself to go there for that. I'll decide Monday what to do. Thanks for your responses.

Never had them, but have you tried fiber rich breakfast cereals? I love Autumn Wheat (whole foods, I think) - like shredded wheat with a touch of honey instead of frosting. I noticed it helped with being regular, especially when I went on a "fruity pebbles" binge - I could tell the difference ;)

Good luck and feel better!

i would REALLY encourage you to do a TON of research, and NOT give a lot of credence to the sites promoting them, they are trying to SELL you something. talk to you dr as well. i can tell you, i would NEVER do a colonic, and i would def never do one while pregnant. there are many other, much safer ways to deal with constipation. i would try increasing my fiber, miralax, drink a cup of coffee every morning, or some other things like that. just be sure that you fully understand a colonic before you make that decision.

i just see your response, have you tried a stool softener like colace(they come in generic also)? i seriously doubt you're gonna find a physician that would recommend a colonic. you may need an enema to get things going, or something else to try(talk to your OB first), i spent about a month inpatient during my second trimester of my first pregnancy, and when i got home, i was SO plugged up! the pain doubled me over and i thought i was dying. the home health nurse put a call in and we were told to take milk of mag AND use a glycerin suppository - i had a bm within the hour. another rec i have is to move around. drink that cup of coffee then walk around for 30/40 minutes(unless you're on bedrest). are you on any nausea meds? zofran is BAD BAD BAD about causing constipation. i actually cut my dose down, then came off altogether and went back to phenergan. hope you get some relief soon!

My good friend is a colon therapist in California, and I have had colonics for lower back pain, and headaches, and know first hand how great they work. But I'm pretty sure that you should not have one while you are expecting. You can check out her web. site, and maybe e-mail her for advise. The site is www.livingwaterrejuvenation.com, her name is Roxanne Watson and she is one of the greatest women I know.

Have you ever tried the acai-berry juices? I tried one that Costoc sells, it's acai-berry with blueberry made by Bolthouse for Kirkland. Health-food stores have more varieties, but do not taste as good to me. My nutritionist said it's a pretty safe, natural drink, but you may want to ask your doctor before trying. I suffer from this at times, and it's the first thing I try to get myself back on track. When I first tried it, I may have drank too much. It tasted so good to be, I drank a full glass. Wow, it was pretty effective the next morning. Someone later told me it takes only about 1/4 to 1/2 cup because of it's natural fiber. So if you do decide to try it, take it slow. The next is the yogurt with fiber. These are just suggestions that have worked for me.

I've had several bowel issues since I was 16 and now I have very little troubles. I use a herbal colon cleanse daily that doesn't hurt or make me cramp, and once a month I drink a detox 7 day cleanser. I have had 5 colonoscopys and lived too long with constipation and etc. I have seen so much relief with these two products. If you are interested in them let me know. Thanks M. T.

I am not overweight or "stopped up" but the hype on colonics got me to thinking about it.

I decided it was a lot of hype after research and I don't want to do something so drastic to my body and be confined to my home for who knows how long until it is over.

One thing I have changed is that I have been drinking DanActive for about 2 months now. My 13 yr old daughter and I do this every morning. I have never been more regular, feel better and for the first time in YEARS, my nails are growing.

I am not good at taking a pill for supplements or any other reason and my Dr. really gets onto me for forgetting my daily vitamin. I can say that DanActive has made a difference for me.

I buy it at Costco, 24 day supply for about $12 which is cheaper than the grocery. It is quick and easy, no pill and no yogurt. We like the drink. Activia is good but that gets old everyday for us. You do have to be consistant for about 2 weeks to see the difference.

Also, when I was pregnant I had metamucil daily in a drink and then after dd was born I did Colace. They both worked well.

Don't feel bad if you have to go to ER for your issue. I had to go to ER when pregnant because I had to pee and could not. It was a joke to hubby and my neighbor for a while (about 1/2 day) until we all realized it was no longer a joke. Dd was sitting on my bladder blocking it. My OB said if I had waited much longer, dd and I could have had some drastic, bad results. At the time, I had the record of amount drained at Medical Center Plano. I had to wear a catheter for 2 weeks and then off and on for a month.

Pay attention to your instincts!

Good luck to you.
