My husband and I are thinking about doing a colon cleanse and wanted to hear if anyone had one and what they thought. I have about 5 symptoms of needing one. Also can you do them at home or is it best to go have it done?

Thank you to everyone who responded. I still haven't decided for sure if I will do this or not. So much information and options is making it hard. If I do go through with it I will be sure to post it. Thanks again :)

If you feel you must do this. By all means do it a different times. You will be in the (John) quite a while.
I would not do this every year unless a Dr. says you need to.

After reading all the hype on colon cleansers online, and seeing the amazing stuff that came out of people, I was ready to jump in with both feet. But after doing a little more research I came to the conclusion that most of them are scams. The amazing long, alien-looking ropes you see people holding over their toilets are actually the remainders of the colon cleansing products they've been using. My dad asked his Dr. about cleanses when he went for his colonoscopy, and the Dr. said that he's looked in thousands of colons and never seen the "spackle" that these products claim coat the walls of your intestines.

I think eating a healthy diet with lots of fruits, vegetables, and fiber is the best thing you can do for your guts.

I've never done a colon cleanse, but I use Cleansing products daily from Isagenix. It's a cleansing and fat burning system that cleanses harmful impurites from your entire system at the cellular level. It also helps burn fat, build muscle, lose unwanted pounds, reduce cravings, absorb balanced nutrients and improve mental clarity. You can check out www.wendyfitzgerald.isagenix.com for more information. The Cleansed for Life video under the IsaVideos tab is a great look at what Isagenix cleansing is all about. I've had great results with Isagenix and have never felt healthier.

In september i tried the master cleanse. I do not recomend this for moms. It is really hard to be on a no food diet and still have to fix meals for kids. I lasted 9 days on it and was really bitchy, but my colon was clean. you could try doing the salt water flush part. Dissolve two teaspoons of uniodized sea salt in a quart of lukewarm water. get it down as quickly as you can, it is a lot. It will get things moving, but only last for about 60 minutes or so, that you will be in and out of the bathroom. Is easier if you can do it in the morning on an empty stomach. Good Luck.

Detoxification and cleansing are very important to maintaining health as we come in contact with toxins throughout the the day through the air we breathe, the water we drink, the things we touch that are absorbed through our skin, and the food we eat. This build-up of toxins weakens the body, increases stress and fatigue, leads to poor digestion and weight gain, as well as premature aging.
When looking for an internal cleanse, you want to look for a naturally-based product that will cleanse the colon and liver gently. You also want to use a product that doesn't require fasting as this can cause some significant electrolyte abnormalities that can be very harmful to your heart.
Arbonne has a 7-day Body Cleanse Dietary Supplement that uses marine botanicals to gently detoxify the system. With this system, you will not be jailed in your bathroom and you can eat. It can safely be used on a monthly basis.
The Body Cleanse is part of the SeaSource Detox Spa Line. This entire line is meant to detoxify internally and externally. Only second to the liver, the skin is the next most important organ in regards to dexification. Along with the internal detox, this line helps the skin function optimally to release additional toxins from our system.

Hi T.,
I highly recommend the Colonix system. You can buy it at www.drnatura.com. I did the cleanse twice - last year & this year. It is very easy to use & gentle. You can go about your daily routine (no need to stay home). It is recommended you do it for 2 months initially. It consists of lots of water, daily fiber, supplements & detoxifying tea at night. I had amazing results & felt great after completion of the program. The website posts many photos of "junk" that comes out of people's colons. I thought I was too young to have any of that, however, was unpleasantly surprised. Once my colon was free of the old fecal matter I experienced an overwhelming sense of lightness & increased energy.
I also tried colon hydrotherapy, however, didn't like it. It made me extremely tired. I also think it is pretty superficial since water doesn't reach all areas of the colon. I really believe the best cleanse is "inside out" like the Colonix program.

I'm not an authority on the subject , but I have done them before. I have had colonics as well as doing a 5 day colon cleanse that included colonics as well as drinks to cleanse the whole intestinal track out. However, a few friends of mine have been turned onto Metamucil. From what they have told me it helps cleanse the whole intestinal track out when taken once daily, usually done at bedtime. Either way, cleansing your whole intestinal track once in awhile is good. With the 5 day cleanse it was dietary, the drinks 5 times a day with liquids in between. Then I scheduled 3 colonics, one before I started, one in the middle, and one the last day of. It worked great. I used Sunrise Colonics. She's great, very knowledgeable, and very professional. If you are interested in the 5 day cleanse call Sunrise Colonics, it's in the phone book, she can get you set up on it. I hope this has helped you, best of luck with what ever you chose.

They work well, but plan it for a day you won't be anywhere except home. You can buy them over-the-counter at any pharmacy. My husband did one a few years ago, after having it recommended by his doctor, and it was really good for him. I think I recall the doctor telling him that everyone should do one about 1 time a year. I haven't been able to because I have always been either pregnant or nursing, but am looking forward to when my youngest is weaned so that I can benefit from it. Hope this helps.

Doctors do not recommended them. Your colon removes waste from your body. By the time your waste is in the lower colon all the bad stuff has already been removed. The afternoon tv show that has real doctors answering questions did a segment on colon cleanse. They did not recommend. You should consult your primary care DR about this. If you are having problems maybe a Gastrointestinal DR would be helpful.
Proper diet & exercise is key. If you do do them, be sure to take probiotics to help your body replace the good bacteria you removed.

I have done a lot of research comparing colon cleanse systems you can do at home. I ended up deciding the Colonix would be the best choice, based on ingredients and reviews from both medical and user sources. A few months later I noticed that Colonix is what my chiropractor sells.

I haven't done it myself because I've been pregnant or nursing since I became interested. Also, there are those who swear by it and then there are those who call it a hoax. I guess I was personally willing to do it and see for myself. I figured that if nothing else, it would be a mental starting point for me to begin my healthier eating. (Wouldn't want to put junk in a clean intestine, now would we?!?!)

I'm not much help, but I don't think you need to spend a lot of money to do it. My husband does liver cleanses about 3 times a year which consist of grapefruits, epsom salts, and olive oil. Can you guess why I haven't done that yet?!?

Blessings!

You may even want to try doing a RESET instead of a cleanse. I did the USANA reset about a month ago. Usana has amazing products (all science based) and I haven't felt this good in years! My husband and I both did the reset & now swear by the supplements. We've changed our eating habits a bit. Eating every 2 to 3 hours & took a class called the Heathly Edge. If you would like me info let me know. I would be happy to share. ____@____.com

I've spent money on one of those off of the radio and I noticed no real results. The thing that works best for me is the flax seed. I buy the seed in the bulk at the store and use a coffe grinder to grind it for a weeks worth and keep it in the fridge. The seeds I keep in the freezer. I drink 2 tbls. w/juice everynight. It works wonderfully. The golden has alot of great things for you in them, the brown is mainly fiber.
