Good Morning Moms!
My husband and I would like to try a colon cleanse so i have been researching them on line. I kinda want to try the Master Cleanse-I realize it is a 30 + day cleanse, and I am a SAHM so that would be okay for me. My question is has anyone tried this before? Do you know of any that really work? I don't mind a long one, but does anyone know of a shorter one my husband could do (maybe over a weekend?) I also don't mind purchasing one but would prefer a homemade recipe...I'm looking for one that is tried and true, that I will feel better and maybe shed a few pounds...any experiences ladies? Also, besides being close to a bathroom, is there any other side effects I should expect? Thanks!

What can I do next?

1st of all K.. These things are not good for you. Women get the wrong idea about this. Our bodies are made to cleanse themselves. If you do this to your body you will mess up its natural cleansing process. Eating a healthy diet and getting at least 20 minutes of cardio a day along with some weight lifting/toning twice a week is the best thing you can do for yourself. Drink a lot of water and you will cleanse your body the natural and healthy way. There is NO QUICK FIX for weight loss unless you are doing something UNHEALTHY!! Do the research and you'll see. Why would you think doing this would make you feel good?? Vendors will tell you anything to get you to buy their product.

Proponents believe colon cleansing provides health benefits — by removing toxins from their bodies, and boosting their energy and their immune systems. But doctors take a different view.

Although doctors may recommend colon cleansing in preparation for a medical examination of the colon, most don't recommend colon cleansing for better health or to prevent disease. This is because:

It's unnecessary. Your colon doesn't require enemas or special diets or pills to eliminate waste material and bacteria. It does this naturally on its own.
It may be harmful. Your colon absorbs water and sodium to maintain your body's fluid and electrolyte balance. Some colon-cleansing programs disrupt this balance, causing dehydration and salt depletion. Long-term or excessive cleansing programs can lead to problems such as anemia, malnutrition and heart failure.
If constipation is your concern, you can help prevent constipation without colon cleansing. Drink plenty of water and eat a diet rich in fiber. The Institute of Medicine offers these daily fiber recommendations:

Hi K.
I suggest eating like your at a spa. Sprout some beans and seeds, I like sunflower seeds, mung beans, lentils. Filter your water, drink an extra glass or to. Try to cut out all sugar, I like to make 90% of our food from scratch makes it real easy.

Serve a sprouted salad over fresh veggie noodles

"Noodles"
Take a potato peeler to a few carrots, 1 dikon, cucumber just go around the seeds. Toss in lemon or lime juice

Sprouted Salad
1 c sprouts
2 each Red, yellow, and orange sweet pepper, thinly sliced
Red cabbage sliced as thin as possible

sauce
1/4 c peanut putter
2 teaspoons soy sauce, like brags amino acids
juice of 1/2 a lemon
few tablespoons water, or more
whisk till combined.
some hot pepper powder :)

The best colon cleanse you could possibly do that is the healthiest is to get a COLONIC! This is the safest bet. This is what I highly recommend to all my clients the ask me about it and I have done it myself.

You undergo the session for almost an hour, the therapist will massage your stomach (the correct way to help you expel) and you can lose some weight, but if this is your goal then so be it as there are other health benefits to it.

I can highly recommend the "Center for the Healing Arts". It is also beneficial to receive a Massage or Reflexology session prior to your colonic to help relax your body to move the process along easier.

Pills are not the answer to everything.

Or if you prefer, the Master Cleanse will achieve highest results, but you could get sick depending on what is going in your body. You need to be ready for what you are detoxing.

Good Luck!

Hi K.~
Please reconsider. From a medical standpoint this is TOTALLY a waste of your time and money. Most of the products are nothing but fiber capsules/tablets and when taken with water, swell up to make you 'think' that the large volume that you pass is 'backed up' feces that has been stuck in your body. It's hype...this just isn't true. Normal people do not need any cleansing beyond a daily BM. It is so much more beneficial to increase your fiber (up towards 30 grams/day) and water intake long term. Think about this, the prep for a colonoscopy is only 12 hours and one bottle of a fluid to drink. When the test is performed, your bowels will be perfectly clean. There are no backed up toxins that your body holds on to and it certainly doesn't take 30 days to cleanse your system.

Please don't fall for this 'colon cleanse' scam...do it natrually and reap the health benefits of a high fiber diet! You'll lose actual weight by feeling satisfied with less food and you'll be getting the nutrients you need instead of dangerously depleting them!

I totally agree with the other responses...NO one needs a colon cleanse.. Are you constipated..?? then take a normal laxative. Do you eat fiber daily?? if not add some prunes or prune juice to your daily diet.

Colon cleanses are a waste of time and money.
