Ahh... the Terrazo (sp?) that Gevalia used to sell was divine! We stopped getting Gevalia deliveries a few years ago though. Good coffee, just got tired of keeping track of shipments. We generally like Starbuck's also. We grind the beans ourselves and make it true to directions (too little and it doesn't taste right), which means, basically, a coffee scoop (actual coffee scoop) per cup brewed plus a little extra. Basically, you are supposed to use a scoop per 6 oz cup, but who owns a 6 oz coffee cup?!! If I fill the water to the 8 cup mark, I use 9 scoops of coffee.
My husband likes the darker roasts, too. We love the Christmas and Thanksgiving blends that Starbuck's puts out. But my favorite is the Reindeer blend that Caribou coffee sells at this time of year only. Their Obsidian dark roast is my absolute favorite. I like most of the Mocha Java out there---Jittery Joe's has a good one.
I add some half and half to my coffee, but no sugar.
I read somewhere, and believe from my own experience (when the home coffee pot starts to get old and not heat the water as hot as it once did), that the temperature of the water used in the brewing process has a profound effect on the taste of the coffee. When you get a good bean made with the right brew process it is phenomenal. Otherwise, it can be bitter and yuck. I think the BrewStation is Hamilton Beach, right? We had one of those for a while. Where you just put your cup underneath and press the bar to deliver coffee into your cup--no carafe involved, so no burned taste after it finishes brewing.... it was good, until it started getting old. Then the coffee started being less enjoyable for us. You don't really notice it right away... it's a process. Eventually it just isn't good and the coffee pot must go! lol
Dunkin Donuts is ok. But not my first choice.
Oh.. we tried Peet's, but it didn't rock my world or anything. Not bad, just not great, to us.
