So, I have not fully decided on diapers yet. What brand of cloth diapers is best? I like the bum genius that are the one size fits all, but I don't know if they are best or not. Any ideas?

What can I do next?

Hi, Meg. My name is J. and I live here in KC. My family and I just launched a new cloth diaper manufacturing company called RagaBabe. Our website is www.ragababe.com and we are on facebook too. http://www.facebook.com/pages/RagaBabe/127158910630142?v=...
It's fun making a connection with local mamas, and our RagaBabe page is a great place to interact and ask question. We do giveaways here and there too. We offer free shipping to KC metro customers. You can email me for the code or look for it in our ad on craigslist. Let me know if you have any questions (even if you don't end up going with RagaBabe). Getting started can be overwhelming and exciting at the same time.
Best of luck!

I love my FuzziBunz, BabyKicks 2g,SmartiPants and Blueberry diapers. The only way to really know is to try a bunch of different brands. A lot of companies have trial packages. You pay to 'rent' the package and you can return what you don't like. Personally, I don't care for velcro on my clothdiapers, especially the One Size diapers. The velcro just doesn't last as long as the snaps do. Plus, when baby is a toddler they figure out how to get that velcro off REAL quick! :)

If you like the pockets, I'd check out Happy Heiny's too. I haven't seen the new style BG, but I preferred HH. The pocket to stuff was bigger which was nice b/c BG's is really small - I had problems and don't even have big hands. Also, I much preferred the HH velcro; BG's didn't even last through one baby. It was terrible (but something they said they improved with the new version). BG is trimmer though.

What I can tell you is that everyone will tell you something different. Don't get married to one brand and buy a ton. You'll find that different things work best at different times. Like prefolds - thought I'd hate them, but love them.

when i was thinking about cloth diapering, i went to a website called jillian's drawers. they have a diaper trial that i did that really helped me figure out what worked for me. they are soooo nice and helpful there as well. they have a very liberal return policy as well. locally, i buy from cotton babies, and do use bum genius some of the time.

Hi, you might want to pick up ONE dipe of a few that interest you to see which ones you like. Jillians Drawers is one site that offers a trial so you can try different kinds! Many like BumGenius, and they work great, but I don't care for them because I don't like having to a) have to stuff the pocket, and b) it's good for just one use. I had the one size.

I personally like two of the hybrids, GroVia, a one size, and I prefer aplix over snaps due to my hands hurting and getting a better fit, and gDiapers, which come in 3 sizes. I love GroVia's snap in organic cloth liners. I can usually get 2-3 wears out of 1 dipe (I air dipes out, rotating them, unless they have doo-doo or feel wet, and I never re-use the nighttime one, which I also add a booster to). GroVia can also be used with a biodegradable flushable insert for going out.

I also like gDiapers as they are really trim. They are not as well made, but I like the trimness under clothes for going out and I only use the biodegradable flushable inserts. And they are too cute. They are made with cotton jersey, so they are not waterproof like GroVia and many of the other dipes are.

BumGenius and GroVia have some new fun patterns coming though! You may also want to try the Bum Genius Flip, which is a hybrid as well.

I also use Econuts to wash, air dry the shells and machine dry the inserts. Feel free to pm me w questions.

I've used Fuzzi Bunz, Kushies AIO from Walmart, Motherease, and trifold diapers (sold as burp cloths at Walmart) with pullup plastic pants. The thing about cloth diapering is what is best for you and child changes from child to child and as the child grows. Right now I use cloth at home and disposibles away from home with my 2nd. My first was cd exclusively for the first 2 yrs.
Fuzzi Bunz is a pocket diaper and they have held up really well thru 2 kids, but they are expensive. Motherease were a hand me down from a relative and they hold up well but are a snap diaper with a seperate cover and I found two pieces to be bothersome in certain situations. The trifold diaper with plastic pants is the cheapest option I have come across and is great at the house where I can deal with leaks and/or change frequently.
Know that probably you will not find one diaper to last the entire time with your child, though there are great systems that can take you from one stage to another. GL!

Hemp diapers are AMAZING!!! Most of mine are cotton and while I like them I tried my friends hemp brand while visiting her house one day. (Yes, I ran out-so embarasing!!!!) They were great! So soft, and twice the absorbency. They are a bit more $ but all three of my friends who use them say it is worth every penny-I believe them and will be using them for our next!!!

i agree that different things work for different people/babies. I've used mostly prefolds and covers for 3 children with a few bum genius, fuzzi bunz and fitteds thrown in. I personally like them to usually have natural fabric touching them, so my fuzzibunz and bumgenius are mostly for quick changes/outings, like some people use disposables for outings. I have never needed a diaper sprayer for the toilet as all of my kids have gotten pretty good at letting me know when they need to poop by the time they are really eating much solid foods (9-12 months) and I just put them on the potty. With child #3 I have had a bit more money, so I use mostly fitteds with no cover around the house (he is 13 months now and goes on the potty about half the time), prefolds and covers for night time, and stuffable diapers in the diaper bag or if I am in a hurry running out (which is often). Bum genius I like better than fuzzibunz in how the inner layer is, but they got rather tight on my son by about 6 months (he's big, though, 28 pounds at 6 mo, still 28 pounds -he gained 2 oz at the dr apointment from 6 mo to 12 mo). Definately look into laundering them before you start, as I didn't know what I was doing at first and it is helpful to use the right detergent and such. I can tell which diapers I had at first because they are much harder used. I recommend going to Happybottomus (at 93 and metcalf, I think) and checking out different kinds, that way you can feel and see them in person even if you don't buy from them!

love my cloth diapers!

I really love BumGenius, especially for night. You can adjust the absorbency, which is really helpful as they get older. For a newborn (I'm not sure sure, of your child's age!) prefolds and covers are easiest and most affordable. I like Thirsties covers. My prefolds are chinese prefolds from cottonbabies.com. They have lasted 17 months now! We also use GroVia diapers, which are really great and easy to use. If you don't already know this, you want to use a cloth diaper safe detergent. Something like Rockin Green, or Country Save. There are several really good cloth diaper detergents out there. We have a diaper sprayer, that hooks up right to the toilet. Super easy to install! It's really helpful, especially when their diets become more varied.

check out www.diaperswappers.com. I don't think any one cloth diaper is "best", just what is best for you & your child. I used a variety of brands & inserts, did some prefolds, but I do think the bum genius and happy heiney's were my favorite, though they needed extra inserts for overnights. Good luck!
