Cleaning Rings in Toilets

Anyone know how to get rid of those awful rings around the toilet? I scrub with Comet or Soft Scrub and a sponge and although the toilets are sparkling clean, there is still a faint ring that I can't get rid of. Help!

What can I do next?

I have had this same problem before and nothing would get it out - I tried every product mentioned, but nothing! The only thing that ever worked was a product called sno-bowl - it's in the aisle with the regular toilet cleaning stuff and it's pretty cheap. It's worth a shot - good luck!

Hey L.,
Have you tried a pumice stone? If you don't know what this is, it is a stone that is generally used to get dead skin off of your hands/feet that you use in the shower. You can probably find them somewhere in the beauty section at Wal-mart, publix, or wherever! You get the stone wet first, and just rub it on the toilet and the ring should come right out! The only thing is that you can ONLY use these on WHITE toilets! Hope this helps

I use Jennifer P's advice. Raise the water level, add clorox, let soak, wash with brush as usual. Voila!

I hate that! I finally found something that works without having to scrub the bowl by hand which grosses me out. Pour a couple cups of water in so the water level is just above the ring. Then pour in half a cup or so of bleach. Let it sit for a half hour/hour and then scrub with your usual scrub brush, it should wipe off nice and easy.

Try CLR in between normal cleanings. The same thing was happening to me and I realized that it was calcium buildup.

I used to go thru the same thing... and I was cleaning the toilet 3 and 4 times a week with bleach. I finally got these clorox drop in tabs. They go in the tank on the back and everytime you flush it cleans... you have to replace it once a month, depending on how often your toilet is flushed. So now, I clean the toilet twice a week and there are no rings at all!

Hey L.,
my best advise is that Mr Clean erase all sponge someone else recommended. I always have one on hand, it get rid of anything! If you go the pumice route, it will damage the finish on the inside of the bowl making the rings harder and harder to get rid of. Also, you should put some treating stuff like those blue balls in the water tank so the water itself starts cleaning before you start to scrub.

There's some kind of pumice stone you can buy. It doesn't scratch the toilet bowl or other porcelain surfaces, but it gets stains off. I think you can get them at a hardware store for about $3.00 and it lasts a very long time.

There is a great product for that: CLR. It's made to clean concrete, lime and rust. Just pray on, leave a few minutes, brush and rinse.

Pumice stone is my advice. You can find them in hardware stores and vacum cleaner shops. Only cost a few dollars and work wonders for many things.

Our toilets started getting what looked like rust rings. I found a product a Lowes that you drop in the back tank of your toilet. It looks like a small piece of metal. It took a few days but rings have not come back. The best part - it only cost a few dollars! Look in the plumbing section. Good luck

That could be calcium deposit or even rust. If it's a toilet that's been used for a number of years, and it's a light color porcelain, then it could be a stain that won't go away. Before you give up, try CLR on it or even Bam. There are a lot of products on the market that get toilets very clean and beautiful.

Peace,
Syl

I haven't tried it, but I have passed it along: I heard that you should pour in a can of pop (sorry, soda to most people) into the toilet at night (any kind will do) and leave it in there overnight. I heard it clears and cleans. It's worth a shot and it's cheap :)

Try using SnoBowl. I leave it in the toilet for awhile after I clean. Also, I just found a great product from Scrubbing Bubbles (I am a Bzz Agent, so I got to try it for free!). It's called Toilet Cleansing Gel. The gel comes in an applicator, and you apply a small amount to your inside of your bowl. It makes the bathroom smell super-fresh. I haven't had it long, so I'm not sure if it helps with the rings. Good Luck!

I see black and or pink gel in the toilets and just keep scrubbing. I think it's a mold that won't die. It's also in our shower heads...I know it's gross; but no need to stress over it. As long as it doesn't grow a face and start talking to you, you're ok....
