Hi Mamas! We are thinking about getting our air ducts cleaned to help eliminate the dust in our house. Seems like every time I dust, the dust is back in less than a week (I use the hand held Swifter duster)! For those who have had their air ducts cleaned, is it really worth it? Did you notice a big difference? What company did you use (I am located in the Ballwin/Manchester area). Thanks!

Hi M., I agree with Lori! I'm , too, an RN & was waking up for months congested. I got the same advice, you don't need to do it! The house is almost 20 yrs old & never been done. I have dogs, do doggie daycare & a cat & previous owners had pets. I had to Swift everyday! After I got it done, no congestion & Swift less. My only suggestion is you must see the vents first (they have a camera), get the estimate before they start, (They get you with a $79 special & then up the price). I expect that & negotiated a good price. Also, forget the add-ons. Afterword, look in the tank they pull the stuff out into...EWWW.. you'll be glad you did it! Price was $375,( typical 4 bed, 21/2 bath). $500 for large house sounds right! Hope this helps! C. P.
Clean is alway better than dirty.
I had this comapany clean mine. The owner did all the work himself and didn't make a mess. He even made a minor repair at no charge. (He also explained how the coupon guys work and I'm glad I found him instead!)
There is great video at his website. Mine were as dirty as the duct in the video. www.cleanducts4kc.net ###-###-####

Totally not worth it. I paid almost $300.00 to have this done and not a bit better. Then I was told it was a waste of money.
Hi M.,
I would say that yes it is worth it. We've got a friend who owns his own heating and cooling company and kept telling my husband for years that it was a waste of money. I finally just over-ruled my dear husband and said we are doing it. *I am a registered nurse and worked several years for a lung specialist in his office and we recommended it all the time for our patients. So no only did it cut down on the dust flying through the house, if anyone has allergies, they should feel better too.
Looking at it now, I think you should do it every few years or so, but especially if you move. The house we're in now was 12 years old when we bought it 8 years ago. Not only did the 2 previous owners have pets (so do we) but one of them had a bunch of birds. Mine and our daughter's allergies (bird and cat) were much better after we did it.
We used Midwest and I really liked them but I'm sure there are several great companies out there. What I remember it was like $500 but our house is fairly large and they charge by the vent.
In good health,
Lori K
