I just read that San Francisco is trying to pass a law banning cinrcumcision for anyone under 18. They don't even give an exemption for religious purposes.

I find so many things wrong with this starting with the government's opinion that it is our choice to end a pregnancy but not to circumcise our boys?

If your boy wants to be circumcised he has to wait until he is 18, ouch!

Hum, what happens if you go out of town and have your son circumcised?

Anyone understand this?

So What Happened?

Thanks for the link, I'm a readin.

To who ever posted the mom = nonsense, do you realize the slippery slope this is. There are already regulations being tossed about limiting parents rights. I wish I had links because it was shocking. Some rules would actually give your child's school more power to decide what your child can do than their parents could. So we get rid of circumcision, what if all those kids that are breast fed until they are over two years old all start coming together talking about the psychological trauma it cause them, they can't keep any relationship, blah blah blah, then the government comes in and says it is against the law to breast feed your child past age 1 or 6 months?

Any parenting choice could go under the microscope because lets face it, we make the best choices we can but sometime we still end up with a messed up child. Sometimes they are not happy. I just feel like parents should be allowed to make the best choices they believe. The government shouldn't have the noses in this.

I read the arguments about abortion being okay since the fetus cannot live on its own, so how about we have inutero circumcisions, there, problem solved!

The gall of some people makes me crazy!

I am continually amazed at how some people feel they have the right to dictate to us all what we can and can not/should and should not do with our children...it is insane! Circumcision has been around for thousands of years.

Here is an idea! If you do not want to get YOUR child circumcised DON'T, no one is FORCING you to...but do NOT take away my right to circumcise my child!

Sheesh!

~I am not dumb, I get the jist of why some people feel this is a harmful and unnecessary procedure but I am SO leery of these types of laws...I feel this is a very slippery slope...the next thing we know someone is going to take issue with ear piercing. IMHO, as long as no one is being FORCED to take part in such treatments such as circumcision, then I do not feel there needs to be a law prohibiting it. What a waste of $ and resources at this current time...are you honestly telling me that the state of CA or the city of San Fran has no other pressing issues they should be dealing with at this point in time?

I just watched a show on this subject and I was also shocked. Apparently, the rate of circumcision has gone from 91% in 1970 to 30% in 2010. The reason is supposedly because they disproved the benefits that circumcision was being used for. Insurance companies are in the process of no longer covering the procedure, and there are many groups advocating that circumcision causes nerve desensitization and should not be the decision of the parents. Apparently, it causes issues with sexual health and they feel it should be the decision of the male when he is an adult to decide if he wants it. I was surprised at how many people now feel this way. This was the first I had heard of this. Personally, I would prefer circumcision. I always thought that it is much more hygenic, but I don't really know a lot about the issue beyond what I shared. My views could change though. I just don't have enough knowledge to make an informed decision. I do know that California is not the only state that is considering this. They just happen to be further along in the process.

circumsions should be done by a professional ONLY
not some half wit, sleep deprived first year intern
( the interns are usually the ones doing the circumsions in hospitals)
because the doctors seem to think that it is somehow not worthy of their "valuable" time.
dont believe me, ask.
doctors and hospitals out in san fran are probably just tired of being sued because they have blotched too many of them
you cant exactly glue it back on, you know

isn't it scary how the government is trying to control our lives...regulate what we can and cannot do?

I agree - this is a VERY slippery slope and those that don't see that - wow - scare me!!

For Bug to say it will never pass....never say never...there are some laws i didn't think would get passed....and they have...
