I am looking for ideas for Christmas presents for my kids to give to their grandparents. In the past we've done painting pottery, calendars of their pics, notepads w/ their pics, etc. Does anyone have any great ideas? It can be something bought or made. Thank you!

I am going to have a sweat shirt made that says "blessed to be a grandma/grandpa of" then list all the grandchildrens names. I made it on the computer and printed it out.

There is a great frame that can be purchased in the household catalogs. It can be opened easily and another masterpiece from the kids can be put into it and several can be stored. As a grandma of a 4 year old, I love her painting masterpieces!!! Plus for Grandma, bracelets out of the bead kits or woven hot pads are wonderful too. For her mom's last birthday, I watched my granddaughter make a beaded bracelet for her mom at our home and I was priveleged to see all the love that goes into creating the gift. Homemade Christmas ornaments with the child's picture on it would be a great gift too. The photo frames that can have a recording of the kids on it would be nice especially if the grandparents are out of town. The calendars you've done is still a great idea and the pictures of the grandkids will be different every year. As a grandma, I cherish anything my granddaughter makes or a picture of her. --R. H.

Hi C. -- How 'bout Christmas tree ornaments? They can be made out of construction paper or felt or tin can lids with all kinds of decorations glued on. Or photos of themselves glued on. If you use the kind of lid that has a tab attached so you can pull the whole lid off, you can use the tab as a hanger OR you can use it as a stand, glue a picture on, decorate (especially around the rough edges) and you have a one-of-a-kind picture frame.

You all have fun! L.

I was thinking maybe you could make a homemade video for them. I imagine your kids are at a great age for making up skits, telling stories etc. Or, they could even just sit in front of the camera and recall some of their favorite memories with Grandma and Grandpa. If I were a grandparent I'd love to have something like that to watch!Just a thought, good luck!

This is just a small thing, but our family loves to play games when we get together, so we had playing cards made with a picture of all of the grandkids. I think we did it through Walgreens.

We made photo coasters this year for our grandparents. Walgreens.com is the best place that I have found for coasters. We even ended up ordering a set for ourselves. They are great. Good luck!

A photobook is easy and fun for the kids to help with. My kids loved making it because they got to pick the pictures, pick the backgrounds and journal silly messages that only Grandparents would understand and appreciate. Good Luck!

www.bronners.com has a huge variety of great ornaments you can have personalized to say "Grandma" or "Grandpa". I did that for my entire family this year as gifts from my daughter. Have you done handprints yet? Also, I bought recordable ornaments last year and recorded my daughter laughing then put her christmas picture in the ornament. I think I got them from www.holidayvoices.com

One of my mom's favorites is the year I put a bunch of the kids pictures to some of her favorite songs to make a video. This is especially great if your grandparents aren't close and don't get to see the kids regularly!! IF they live close and your kids help them - what about some gardening stuff with seeds that say - can't wait to help plant and harvest with you next year - Have fun!

What about starting a scrapbook? You could have the kids decorate their pages themselves and decide which pictures to put in there. I did one for my parents and my in-laws for Christmas last year and picked pictures from their recent visits to our place. They were really liked and I have since put more pages in there.

Do you have a "Things REmembered" near you? They have ornaments that you can put a photo in and have engraved. My sister and I went in together this year and it says "Granddaughters Rule--2008" (we have 3 girls between us and figure there will be more grandKIDS in the futue, so thought it would be fun to focus on the girl aspect this time around)--then it's a momento they can use every holiday and look back at how little the girls were that particular year. Also, if they use computers at all, both sets of grandparents have LOVED the mousepad with the kids pictures on it--a daily reminder (my sister is an hour and a half away and we are a 3 hour drive)--you can get them through pretty much any photo place (in store orders or online)--but hurry! It's crunch time! ONe last idea--our nieces made everyone a picture (they painted them) and they were put in a frame (4x6) to look like artwork (it's "abstract" for sure, but we still have them displayed 3 years later!) Merry Christmas!

We just recently went to Build A Bear and stuffed a grandma bear and a grandpa bear and had my 2 kids record a message to them on one of the "build a sounds" and then dressed them...for instance my dad loves to fish, so we dressed his bear in the fisherman gear they had. It ended up to be about $30 per bear, but I know the grandparents will cherish them.

I like giving the grandparents books "from the kids". Go onto Amazon and type in grandma (or grandpa) and look in kids books, they usually have a ton to choose from.

My kids are making "Cookies in a Jar" this year for their grandparents and aunties! Do a web search for "cookies in a jar" and you will find literally hundreds of ideas! From cookies and brownies to chip dips and soups! It's a fun project for them too. They get to measure out the ingredients and pack them into the jar. Then for the lids I bought "Christmas-ey" fabric and ribbons. The direction label I printed off on the computer and the girls added their own decorations to it. It's relatively inexpensive...and we are doing 10 jars this year!

We did a very fun one last year....

take a toilet paper roll, wrap mostly in christmas paper, then have the child(ren) put "love" in the open end and then close up that end. Therefore, the kids give their "love" to G'ma and G'pa. They don't actually open it up, but it's fun. This works well for younter kids...

Also, I see you have twins...we are expecting twin girls in February. Any advice?

This year we are doing digital photo frame keychains and putting pictures from all three families on them. That way they always have a bunch of all the kids with them when they go out.

We gave grandparents a calendar with our child's artwork on it and they seem to love it... it's very personal and I think they like that part of it. We got it at www.sharemykidsart.com which is nice because it also lets you store, organize and share your child's art. Good luck!
