Christmas :) - Saint Paul,MN

I have a daughter who will be two this month. Then, of course, comes Christmas. I have grandma's giving me the shake down for gift ideas for her and I am struggling to come up with good ones for them, let alone ideas for me ;)

So far I know that I am going to make her some diapers for her baby and some cloth wipes (so she'll stop pulling hers out to wipe her babies) and my Mom is going to get her this cute diaper bag from Pottery Barn kids. Mom is also getting her a baby high chair for her birthday so she can feed her babies.

I'm looking for some good toddler toys to keep her busy! She is all action, all the time, and needs some engaging toys. She has two older brothers so we have a train set, trucks, cars, and a small kitchen already. I've given the idea for better play food for her brother (he's kitchen obsessed right now), so hopefully we'll get some good pretend food.

What do your daughters play with between age 2 and 3? What are their favorite toys? I feel like my boys were so easy to buy for because if it had wheels, it was a hit. She has a pile of babies, and she loves them, but it seems like there should be other good toys for girls (or gender neutral) out there I am missing out on. :)

Thanks for your help!
J.

My daughter is 3 and she loves My Little Ponies, Barbies, dress-up clothes and dolls. She got a doll bed and stroller for her birthday. She also loves puzzles.

Puzzles!

My daughter is almost 3 and loves her babies as well, I am buying her a cute brush set and some new dolls with hair so she can really brush them...right now she just pretends to brush her bald babies with a Lincoln log from her brothers' set, it's so sad!

I am at a loss for more ideas so I will be anxiously checking your responses :)

plasmacar... best ride-it toy on the planet. Super stable and super maneuverable. For inside riding the wheels are loud... but switching them out with rollerblade wheels (aka have a bike shop do it) works great. For outside riding you'll probably need a helmet in a few months (they get going FAST when they get comfy with them)... although in 6 years of them being THE neighborhood toy (from age 2-8 and counting)... we've only had 2 or 3 spills total... and all of those at a dead standstill. Did I mention *stable*?

In our house/neighborhood it's nicknamed "The Scoocher" because that's the motion it uses... scooch it, then put your legs on the feet place... scooch it and legs up... scooch it, etc., although the butterfly handlebars CAN make it go just by moving it side to side.

Does she have a doll stroller? We got my daughter one for her 2nd b-day and she just turned 3 and that still gets a lot of play. Fisher Price makes one (Toys R Us) that looks very similar to a Graco type stroller and it is so cute. It wasn't too expensive and she loves it. What about dress up clothes? It started for us a little closer to 3, but my kiddo loves her princess dresses. You can probably find some Halloween ones cheap on-line right now and those cheap plastic high heels are a hit too. Puzzles are a good gift too as someone else mentioned. What about Little People or Barbies? L.P. especially is a great gift and there are tons of sets. We have the basic farm ones which are gender neutral and then we have a fairy tree house one...both are great! You could also look into cooking activity sets, I've seen some at like Michael's and places like that and it comes with all the things to make real food items, like Dirt and Worms and other kid faves. It's really cute and if she likes the play kitchen she might like that too!

Our 2yo loves to paint and color. We bought her the Crayola Lightwand toy that lets kids paint by touching the lightwand to the color then the paper. We also bought a drawing toy from One Step Ahead that works in much the same fashion. I think Crayola makes one too though.

Does she have a play grocery cart or a baby stroller? Those are great ideas for a little girl who is always on the go. Classic toys like blocks, my 3 year old has a set we bought when he was 1 of very basic wooden blocks and he is 3 now and still plays with them. Dress up clothes...also Lego makes sets for younger kids and my 3 year old and my 10 year old still play with them, also Lego lasts forever, I bought two large sets when my oldest was toddler years and they are still in excellent condition. Playmobil has some cute sets that are for toddlers now as well, not too many little pieces to be worried about. My son loved the Little People animals most of all, they make a set that is all animals and helps with alphabet recognition A to Z learning zoo. Books are always a great investment, they have so many great board books out there now.
Lots of luck!

My daughter loved (and still does at age 4) the princess figurines someone else already suggested. She also really likes baby dolls and always has. Last year she got the wooden doll bunkbed and high chair from the Lillian Vernon website. :) Another thing she really likes is her binoculars (which are broken now boo!) and a magnifying glass. She likes to explore around outside and tell me about the fossils she's found. Ha.

If you have a small kitchen already how about a toddler BBQ? Walmart has one right now for like $45.00. I think it even comes with a fake hamburger and hotdog. Might be cute for one kid to be cooking in the kitchen and the other grilling on the BBQ. =)

for my daughter's 2y christmas, she got a set of disney princess figurines.
similar to the ones in this link.
http://www.amazon.com/Disney-Princess-Figurine-Set/dp/B00...

There are no small pieces, dresses, etc. They were the hit of the day, and in the 2y since, she has played with them EVERYDAY!! Seriously.
Best present ever.

Maybe they could pay for a class for her, or both of you, to take together--a gym class, dance, ballet, or music class. You'll definitely want to get out of the house together and do something fun in winter in MN!
