Christian Church in the Bloomington-Normal Area

My husband and I are looking for a "friendly" Christian Church in the Bloomington-Normal area. In the past we have been unable to find a Church that we were comfortable attending and now that we have a 8 month old baby we really want to start the search again so he can grow up in a church environment. Another question, what do you do with a infant at church? Do they stay with you or is there somewhere they have to go?

What can I do next?

Crosswinds Community Church is a fantastic friendly Christian Church located at 2804 Tractor Road in Bloomington.

My brother and sister in law and their children are very active there thus we have had lots of opportunities to witness the welcoming manner of the congregation. (We attend the Methodist Church in Lexington.)

Here is the website address for more information: http://www.crosswindscommunity.org

Best wishes in finding the right church family for you.

Hi B.,
We go to Second Presbyterian Church, which is opening its new sanctuary this weekend. It is downtown Bloomington, on East St. We have great childrens programs. Also, there is nursery available for when you are in church and it is also available for adult sunday school and other adult activities.
We are currently looking for a new senior pastor, but the interim pastor is very good.
I have also heard that East White Oak Bible Church and Centennial Christian are very good.

Hi B.,

I go to the Unitarian Universalist church of Bloomington-Normal. It's not specifically Christian, but welcomes people of all faiths. The teachings are more moral/social than related to a specific theology. If that's not your cup of tea, my neighbors attend Wesley United Methodist, and they are super friendly. We've been to a church get-together with them where we didn't know anyone else, and we felt welcomed there.

On to your next question... Most churches have a nursery where you can leave your baby during the service (free babysitting - can't beat that!), but you should always have the option of keeping your baby with you, too, if that makes you more comfortable. Of course the downside to that is if he cries, you may miss some of the service while you quiet him down.

Good luck with your search!

M.

My family has been going to Heartland Christian Church (off Linden in Normal) for close to 7 years now. We love the atmostphere and the friendly people. The services are contemporary and fit to every day life problems. There are no pews or hymnals, just a band that is not so great most of the time, but cool up-beat songs that are played on the Christian radio stations these days. They have 2 services; 9:30 and 11:00. I usually go to the 11am service. They have a nursery and I leave my 9 month old son there every time. They have a computerized system where a number will show up in the auditorium if they have an issue or concern with your child. You can also take the baby in to the service if you want to - no pressure. Heartland is very laid back and the pastor often wears jeans, so don't worry about wearing your Sunday best! They serve coffee, juice and bagels every Sunday. You should check it out. Right now we are doing a series regarding an expansion in the children's department, so the next 3 or 4 weeks will be talking about money related messages. Don't be concerned about anyone calling and asking you for money - they are not like that at Heartland! Hope to see you there.
