I know this is usually just a joke- but seriously, is chicken in chinese food really chicken? I mean it's just strange the way some pieces are chewy, and some are darker than normal- I know this is gross, but I'm really hoping what I just ate was really chicken! haha- anybody with experience?

What can I do next?

Actually there was a Chinese place on Long Island called Gam Wah. Everyone went there for one incredibly delicious dish. When they were repairing the sewers they cut into the basement under the kitchen and found hundreds of skeletal remains of cats.
This wonderful eatery was closed immediately.

I was wondering where my cat went. :p

No it is chicken, they use whole chicken so you are getting dark meat. Dark meat in stir fry and the like doesn't dry out like white meat. There are times I mistake it for mushrooms in our stir fry we make at home. That I know what goes in.

I think they just buy the cheapest chicken available.

Yes, it was really chicken...if you were in Taiwan or Hawaii (long time ago!) I'd say MAYBE (we would go to our favorite Chinese restaurant in Hawaii and there would be chicken and rooster feet in the parking lot!!!)

Any way - they use every last piece of the chicken...the UNUSED rice usually get re-utilized and made into Fried Rice...they are VERY thrifty and making it last!!!

Who knows?!?!?! I went to culinary school and one of the chefs there told a story about something along the lines of when she worked for the health department and went in to inspect a chinese restaurant. I will not tell you what they were cutting up that day because I don't even like to think about it. If I wasn't typing this, I wouldn't be able to tell this story.

I order vegetarian when we get Chinese food because I always wonder and it makes me nervous!! Try a high end Chinese food restaurant and you probably don't have to worry.

Well, the chicken is chicken, the pork is pork, the shrimp, lobster, crab and scallops are all what they are suppose to be and there can be some beef, too depending on what you order.
Squid can be a bit chewy.
I like a House Special Lo Mein that has a little bit of everything in it.
It's all good!

That question is always in my head whenever I eat chinese foods. Even the beef doesn't seem like the right texture for beef. So I ONLY eat shrimp...

Dark meat, or chicken that has been fried too much, can end up looking kind of funky. Don't worry, it's still technically chicken, though.
