Hi moms!
I own a gymnastics school and am interested in how you get information about local events! I always have trouble finding new places to advertise our special events to families with young children. For example, my gym is having an open house from 2-4pm next Saturday, September 13th in honor of National Gymnastics Day! But I always run out of ideas as to how to get the word out to all you wonderful moms. I have tried NM Kids magazine, and of course I have a website. So where do you moms find out information on local childrens events?

What can I do next?

Hi E., I responded to your first request about where to advertise.

To be honest, word of mouth is best. This is how I find out about most of the activities we do.

Hi E., I think a good idea is to print flyers and take them to schools. My kids (one is a preschooler and the other is in kinder) usually bring them home or I see them in the office when I drop them off. This is how I have found out about many great places for my kids. Good luck!

E.,

I would recommend going through APS. There is someone in charge of permitting flyers to be sent home through the schools. If you go throught the aps.edu website, and got to contact us link, look up either public/community relations or maybe communication. I think it is the Uptown Office. If you have a hard time, you could always just call the number for the main office and ask them who you contact. I believe they give you permission for the whole school year and you supply enough flyers to the schools. I would hit your district schools first.

I hope that helps.

Hi E.,
My two girls are happy SAGA go-ers!
Do you already advertise in NM Kids? I always look there for events. If they are scheduled out pretty far, it's a good venue for you to consider.

If you want to reach parents of pretty young babies and toddlers, this newsletter reaches about 600 families:

And free events like you describe above can be listed in their community calendar. Free events can also be listed in the NM Kids calendar and the Alibi. You can easily fax or email the info to them, I believe.

Try flyers at libraries and community centers. Maybe the Alibi? I actually just took my 3 year old to one of your play sessions because I saw it advertised in the NM kids, it's a little hard to bring her though with my 3 month old.

I think the APS thing is a good idea, and lots of companies do it, but from what I've heard (&seen) is some schools get tons of those papers and parents just throw them all away.
