Can anyone give me some insight on St Catherine's Labourne & OLPH? We are looking to change parishes (we currently belong to MSW in Park Ridge where our older son attends CCD). We would like to have our baby baptised in June and eventually send him to religious education classes in a few years when he is ready.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thank you all for your responses. We decided on OLPH where my son will be baptized in June. It is a beautiful church, although more traditional.

I grew up in Glenview. My family belonged to OLPH and I went to CCD there. I got married there. My children were baptized there. It is a nice church. It is big, though. I know the school there is the largest in the archdiocese - I think there are about 1,000 kids who attend OLPH school. Not that that affects you, if you will be doing CCD, but it just speaks to the size of the parish. Also, the community there is pretty amazing. There are lots of families that have been going there for years and years. Generally, I think that is a good thing; however, I know that since I have stopped going there regularly, when I go back, I really feel like an outsider. I just wanted to mention it, because I'm trying to think about it from the perspective of being new to the parish - it might seem a bit overwhelming at first.

I know less about Saint Catherine's - but it is definitely smaller. My aunt and uncle have been going there for years and I know they really like it.

I grew up in Glenview and atttended OLPH for church( and went to the public schools). My husband went K-8 at St Caterines. Some of his closest friends are still from St. Catherine's. OL has a much more formal feel to it and St Catherines seems more down to earth. You have plenty of time so why not go to each a few times to get a feel for them. It is a big decision and one that you really don't have to feel obligated to stick to should your needs change down the road.

St. Catherines and OLPH offer two totally different experiences. If you are looking for a personal, smaller experience with down to earth people you will love SCL. OLPH is good also. Just a larger church.

My godson was baptized at OLPH and it's a beautiful church. The priest was great! I don't remember his name but he was very engaging. My aunt and uncle attend there with their seven children and seem to like it a lot.
