Catholic CCD Classes - Question from a non-Catholic

So how long do kids take CCD classes? I'm a leader for an 8th grade Girl Scout troop and apparently I still am going to have to watch out for meeting time overlap between troop meetings and CCD classes. I'm just wondering at what age kid's no longer take CCD, or does it go all the way through high school?

What can I do next?

It ends when they are confirmed, which is normally the spring of 10th grade.

ETA: Interesting how it varies by region. In Massachusetts, at least in the two dioceses I have been part of, it's spring of 10th grade and has been that way for decades.

It depends on the parish and the diocese. Do all of these girls go to the same church? If so, you could simply call the church and ask them. Most of the parishes around us have Confirmation towards the end of 8th grade. So they don't even offer classes after 8th grade. I used to work at a nearby church that was a real rebel and had Confirmation in December of 11th grade (and had to listen to parent complaints every year!).

If you can,I would call the church and introduce yourself. Ask them if they would give you a calendar and any other information. I would have done that for you when I worked at the church.

After confirmation. Somewhere between 7th and 10th grade depending on your parish

If their parish is part of a Generations of Faith program, as mine is, it is life-long learning, and may never end. We host children, teens, young adults and grandparents. Anyone and everyone. So it really does depend on the parish. Best of luck scheduling!

Our classes are located on our website. CCD goes to 8th grade, but if the child got a late start, they will end later. So yes, they could go into high school.

The classes at our church are listed under "Faith Formation".

At least through confirmation (sophomore year) but usually throughout high school.

I would say most kids drop out after they make their Confirmation. In our Parish that was 6th grade.

EDIT - JB... I never heard of kids going to CCD in high school. They don't have that in the suburbs of Philadelphia. 8th grade is the latest kids are confirmed around here.

When I went it went all they way through high school, only 4 kids were in CCD when I was in high school. Now it does seem to drop off after confirmation. I got confirmed in 7th grade, but I did have friends that did not get confirmed until 8th grade.

Depends on the parish but generally through the end of 8th grade.
