We have just recently purchased a brand new home. They're still building all around us so I am guessing since our home is getting cozier and the nights are getting colder that all of the field mice have decided to come and try to join our family. I have had a professional here but everywhere he sets the traps (which are the sticky ones by the way not the killers) they just seem to go somewhere else. So...what I'm getting at is everyone I tell this story to tells me to "GET A CAT" These mice are running right in front of me with the TV and the lights on and with me gabbing on the phone. Do you guys think that a cat would help or would the mice simply laugh at it also. I know this all sounds maybe not too serious but it is!!!!!!!!! Please help!! If you have a cat I can borrow I would even do that. tee-hee I'll try just about anything right now. I'm not even sure how to get a cat??? Thanx in advance for any help!!!!

What can I do next?

HI - I live more in the rural area so my cats can go outside - I have 5 of them and I can tell you they are great with mice, spiders and whatever you can imagine. Besides my house there is a horse stable (not a fancy one) which handles a lot of mice but none in my house due to my cats (specially the female - females are better hunters). Don´t be afraid - cats are clean, just be sure to get a litter and sand for it. They don´t need to be walked as a dog and they can be great company if you let them!! You can get a cat at your local pet pound. Good luck!!

Wow your story is funny, but then again not sooo funny... Anyway, a cat would most likely take care of your problem! I have 2 cats, both are house cats only and fully declawed, but if we had a mouse, they'd be all over it. If there is any bugs in the house (like a cockroach or something) they take care of it for me... (we call it bug patrol) Cats love to chase bugs and what not. I'd try it, what do you have loose (except mice lol)

Craigslist is also a great place to get a cat. Definitely don't get one that is declawed- spayed (female) or neutered (male) is a bonus, because you'll want to do that if it's not already. Not sterilizing a pet can cause many problems (both genders are more likely to urinate out of the catbox- around the house- and they can have more medical problems). Only problem is finding one that is a good mouser. They're not all like that. If I were you I might even put an ad on craigslist asking for a guaranteed mouser. My neighbors have some great mouser, but not sure if they're willing to part with them. One is an outdoors only cat (they have allergies), so they might actually be willing to have her go to a home where she'll be indoors. I could ask for you if you like. The cat is very sweet. Her name is Angel and she's tiny. If you have any other questions, please feel free to ask. I've had cats all of my life. Females are better mousers, in general, like the other response said. Males tend to be somewhat lazy.

OMG< that is kinda freaky. I have two cats and if I see any bugs around my house, first I'll scream, then I'll grab one of my cats and direct it the right direction. We had a lizard in our house once and that a bit too tramatic for me to watch. I had to save the poor little lizard.
