Have you heard about a parafin wax dip? Or you might try carniosacral therapy. They have each been very helpful in my experience.
Peace,
S.
Does anyone have symptoms of carpal tunnel syndrome? I just saw a doc about my hand symptoms(numbness, tingling, burning sensations especially in the morning) and she told me to take advil 3 times a day and to wear a wrist splint at night. I have tried both and I feel like it is progressing even more. Sometimes my hands will start to lose feeling throughout the day, such as when I feed a bottle to my baby, dry my hair, etc.
I have a referral to see a hand specialist-don't want to go that route just yet. Does anyone have a similar situation? Any suggestions?

Helo Jennifer my name is E.. I have had CTS and had no option but to have surgery. I do have to say that it is the best decision I have made. I don't have the tingeling anymore and can use my and (like holding a bottle) with out my hand going numb. I had the surgery 6 years ago and it still feels great. The problem I have now is that it is in my other hand now! Yeah! So, I do wear the splint at night and it does help me a little, but not totally. I don't know where you are going for your consulation, but Wellington is the best. Hope you get some results soon! Take care
I had carpal tunnel when I was pregnant. I saw a physical therapist. I went through physical therapy and they did ultrasound therapy to increase the blood flow. I did have to wear the braces at night also. Thank God it went away when I delivered. Try a physical therapist, it may help. Maybe google the topic to get the therapy exercises without going to the doc. Good luck!!
You need to go to the EGOSCUE website (just google) and look into exercises for carpal tunnel. I WOULD HIGHLY AND I MEAN VERY HIGHLY SUGGEST....that you DONT EVEN CONSIDER surgery or anything of the sort until you do these exercises. What you may not realize is that the problems you feel in your wrist and hand are actually issues that begin in the neck and shoulder. Surgery DOES NOT take care of the problem. Talk to people who've had the surgery. You will rarely find anyone who tells you that it only helped temporarily if at all.
I see these kind of clients ALL THE TIME. Reposition the structure of your head neck and shoulders (NOT chiropractic) by re-educating the muscles. You should also be able to find a copy of PAIN FREE and even PAIN FREE AT YOUR PC. These books give you explicit directions as to overcoming the problems. Should even be able to find on Amazon or maybe at a Half Price Book store.
THE THING YOU HAVE TO REMEMBER HERE IS THAT YOU MUST TAKE THE RESPONSIBILITY TO DO THE E-CISES. I can give you names of clients for reference if you like.

I have had carpal tunnel syndrome for years. It does get better but when I do to much of the same movement I begin to feel it again. I did go see a specialist and I was told to do some excerise and they made me a special split for me only. He also told me to wear it all time time until it felt better. I still have the split and I do wear it when I feel that it is going to start up again. I also put my wrist under warm water and open and close my hand. Use play dough or silly putty and play with it with your bad hand a couple of times a day. I believe it really helps. Hope it works for you.
BEFORE SURGERY, PLEASE consider going to see April Dunnington. She is wonderful with this kind of stuff. She's a chiropractor in Centerville. I saw her during and since my pregnancy and one of the things I have struggled with is wrist/hand pain, and she really helped a lot. She also knows a lot about babies and health in general--I highly recommend her.

Hi!
Let me share my story. I have 3 boys, they were all born within 4 years of each other. After the last one, I had crippling Arthritis in my lower back and hips. I saw several doctors, tried different prescription medications, and even went through physical therapy - but nothing helped. A friend suggested I try a nutritional beverage called MonaVie. After 3 weeks of drinking MonaVie, my back and hip pain were gone! I know - how can that be? But Monavie contains the Acai berry which is the most powerful natural anti-inflammatory you can find. It also contains liquid glucosamine which is easily digested and helps rebuild cartlidge and lubricate joints. Since then, I have shared this product with several people and have heard similiar results related to arthritis, carpal tunnel, plantar fasciitis, etc. It's worth a try - much better than surgery!
I was diagnosed with carpul tunnel syndrome in the early 80's my left hand was worse than my right which I use the most. They wanted to cut my wrist and clip a nerve , I refused the surgery and just changed jobs and it went away on it's own. That was over 20 years ago. A couple years ago my boyfriend had the surgery on his hand , it made it worse and now he is having more pain than he ever did before the surgery.Plus he has a nasty little scare on his wrist now.
Jennifer I too have carpel tunnel and I will tell you from experience do not put off the surgery. I was told to take vitamin B6 and wear splints. Which worked great for one month but when the bitter cold set in I would cry and cry hard I did. I worked out door wore 3 pairs of gloves and could not feel my hands till I could get warm again. I also put off the surgery because my father was so ill and he wasn't expected to live and So I put it off until he came out of his trouble. I wish now I had not have waited. I put myself through 6mo of extra pain. It really helped. But I still feel like I am doing somethings different than I use to. Also I have not had any major issues with my hands since. Do it girl you will be glad you did.
Hey Jennifer,
I think it is fairly common to develop Carpal Tunnel syndrome when you are pregnant. I would suggest that you go see someone who treats it, they will do a nerve stimulation test (not the most pleasant thing) and this will give you the kind of information you need to make decisions about treatment options.
I had a closed surgery on both hands about 8 years ago (no scars at all!) and it is so much better now.

Jennifer, I have had this since pregnant with my daughter 19 years ago. The brace at night was a help and as time passes I did see improvement. Now though I am not very sure as I also have very poor blood circulation and get the pain and numbness in all of my extremeties. I am on life-long anticoagulants and have some permanent nerve damage. This has all steming from an autoimmune disorder that I never knew that I had. I almost always opt out of surgery myself. Best of luck to you.

I have CTS in both hands. I had surgery on my right hand about 2 years ago because that hand was the worst at the time and nothing at all helped with my symptoms. The surgery was great with a quick recovery and I'm so happy I did it, it was the best thing I did for myself. I don't have any of those symptoms anymore in that hand. Now, my left hand is getting worse everyday so I've decided to make an appt to see a doctor this week to talk about having surgery on the left hand. I've tried everything again to see if it gets better, but it hasn't. I can't wait until I do it so I don't have to go through this pain anymore, it's driving me crazy and I can't stand it anymore. I would suggest for you to go ahead and just get the surgery over with. It's not a bad surgery at all and I was back to using my hand in no time. I just had to baby it for about a week or so and that was it. My husband had it done too and he was using his hand sooner then I did, but I wouldn't suggest it. He's just too impatient. I hope he doesn't have any problems later on because he didn't give it a chance to heal longer then two days.
Good Luck, I hope you get it taken care of.

Yep. Sounds like carpal tunnel. I've had it since pregnant with my second baby. If the wrist splint does not help, you can get surgery for it. My neighbor just had it, and it is a pretty quick recovery. Mine doesn't bother me too much, so I'll wait until it becomes a big problem. Good luck.
I had the surgery on one had when i was 15 and it was easy- completely fixed the problem for about 10 years, and that hand is still not bad. On my other hand, my CTS comes and goes and was especially bad during pregnancy. My doc told me that even if the symptoms are worse at night, the trauma happens during the day- you have to wear the splint all day long as well as at night. That will help you hold your hand in the right position when you're feeding your baby etc.
Be careful with that much advil- always eat a little so you don't wreck your stomach. Good luck!!
i never say never when it comes to surgery. I put off the operation as long as i could and tried other things, exercises, splints etc. Mine is a pinched Ulna nerve not a carpel. I saw Dr. LaSalle at ONE, loved him. Had the work done about 5 years ago and have never regretted it. What made me decide was my OBGYN, the nerve damage was causing severe pain in my breast and he said that too often women put off having a mammogram because they think it is CTS and then don't find the true cause of the breast pain until it is too late.
I developed CTS with my last pregnancy, 3rd child. He is now 3 months old and I still have numb fingers. The pain and tingling has went away ( I did the splints at night too), but all but my pinkies are numb. I tend to think they are getting better, but I am more than ready to be done with it. I have heard that pregnancy induced CTS don't always go away, so I may have to opt for future procedures as well. From my knowledge and experience, surgery is the only cure.
Good Luck
I was beginning to develop CTS when working at the post office. But have no problems with it now at all. I know of many people who have taken a natural route in addition to the splint and have seen great results and did not go through surgery. I can share what I know - ____@____.com
I would ask for a referral to see an occupational therapist. They can evaluate what's going on and help you with symptom management.
Good luck!
Chiropractor! I had carpel tunnel for the last several months, and all the pain was gone after 2 adjustments! The sooner you go the quicker the recovery. Here's my chiro's website about CTS:

Also, don't sleep on your arm or sleep with your arms above your head. This is mostly how my pain started (among other things).
Go to a Gonstead chiro as they were highly recommended to me (and I can see why!). I had other aches and pains that are completely gone now.
HI - I had all the same sysmtoms as you have. Just make sure it is not your Tyroid. Just get a simplet blood test done. That is what mine turned out to be.
Good Luck!

I've had symptoms for years - caused by typing on a non-ergonomic keyboard (they didn't exist a few years ago). Short of stop using your hands for a long period of time to allow them to rest, I don't think there is any long-term fix for the problem.
My sister just had surgery on her right hand last Monday. She's already got the bandage off and using it some. She's scheduled to have the left hand done in 3 weeks. They only put her in a TWILIGHT sleep, not completely out. She's glad she had it done.
