Car Seat - Both Rear- and Front-facing

My son is 15 months old and just grew out of his infant carrier car seat (Grace Safe Seat). My husband replaced that with a Britax Marathon car seat that we can use until my son is 70 lbs. - he installed the car seat so that it's front-facing. I know my son is technically big enough (24 lbs.) for his car seat to face forward (law = 20 lbs and one year of age), but I've heard that the new recommendation is to stay rear-facing until 2 y/o. I would prefer to keep my son rear-facing as long as possible - seems safer to me and I'm not sure when it will actually become law - but my husband says that the seat won't fit in the car rear-facing. We have a Honda CR-V. Does anyone have a car seat that fits easily rear-facing behind the passenger or driver seat of an SUV like that? Thanks!!

What can I do next?

We were fine with a Marathon rear-facing in a VW Bug, so I can't imagine it wouldn't fit in a CRV. Perhaps he was still reclining it like a newborn would be riding in it?

We have a RAV 4 (essentially the same car as the CR-V) and have the Britax Boulevard (again, essentially the same seat) rear facing behind the drivers seat and my husband is 6'3" and there is no problem. I like the recommendation for the local police department to install. Good luck.

Children are FAR safer riding rear facing as long as possible. Search "rear facing vs forward facing carseat crash test" on You Tube. That being said, nothing fits well RF in a CRV. Maybe try a smaller convertable seat that RFs to a lower limit. Means you will have to buy a new seat when your child is ready to go forward, but a small price to pay for safety

We had to put our son behind the passenger side with our britax refacing. To make sure my husband had enough leg room when driving.

I would also recommend seeing if your local police department does car seat installations/checks. Our local department does it the 2nd and 4th Saturday of the month so we had them install it rear facing so my husband could see the correct way to put it in just in case we need to take it out for some reason. There is a crazy statistic that 8 out of 10 car seats are installed incorrectly.

They don't charge to do this, but we always make a donation when we go. We did the same thing with the infant seat before our son was born.
