the Honda Pilot should have a tether bar. We have 2004 CR-V and there is a tether bar in the back. My Odyssey has a tether bar too.
I'm sorry. that really sucks. I would be upset too.
GOOD LUCK!
That Britax rear facing cars eats must be tethered? Just bought a Honda Pilot and a Britax Advocate carseat for my granddaughter.
Years ago, my husband and I were good at installing carseats, but in the 13 years they have changed. We just could not get this right. So we make an appointment with the state trooper to install. Fill out the paperwork, sign the form and she installs the seat. Then tells me Britax ( the only company that requires this) must be tethered I. The rear facing position. So she installs. This carseat is not going anywhere. However, now no one can ride in the passenger seat!!!!! It is tethered to the track of the seat and you cannot move seat back. Just thought I would put it out there. So now if I am driving my husband has to sit in the back. Same with me friends. Feel like I amDriving Miss/Mr. Daisy. What a pain I. The tush. Of course, because she is not my child, I would never de-tether the seat. God forbid something happened. Have a good week ladies.
Thanks everyone. Can always depend on you! To help. Thanks Cheryl for the website. I guess for now, since it is tethered, I will leave it that way. When it is. Of your own child, it is so very different. Have to return her at the end of the day, the way I picked her up lol. When did carseats get so confusing. 13 years ado, it was much easier and I installed without. Problem. Nothing is simple anymore. Safety first though. Thanks again. You gals are the best.

We have a different Britax rear facing car seat- used for all 3 of our kids and never heard of tethering it that way. We know a lot of people with Britax carseats who have had them professionally installed without that issue... maybe they are different styles and that makes a difference.
Can you not untether it and then tether it back when you have your granddaughter with you? I've used a tether which was hooked to a piece in the back window and I could take the seat out and put it back in easily. Isn't the tether attached with a hook that can be taken out?
Read the manual for your Britax Advocate to see how they instruct you to install RF. The manual for Marathon (which is a few years old, and things may have changed) say that tethering while rear facing is optional.
Edit: I just looked up rear-facing tethering on the Britax site. It says the seat may be tethered (not that it must be tethered). It also describes 2 types of acceptable tethering. It sounds like the car seat tech used the Swedish method, but the Australian method would be easier for you. This tethers the seat to an anchor in the back of the vehicle (behind the seat --so it will go over the child's head). I would also speak to your son or daughter about whether or not he/she wants you to have the seat tethered, and if so, use the Australian method, as it will ahve no effect on the passenger seat.
