There is this really expensive cream you can get at the high end department stores... Marshall Fields... it's called Stivectin..... $100 BUT worth it!
I had a baby about 8 months ago and before I had him, I religiously slathered my tummy with cream and dutifully drank lots of water in the hopes that my skin's elasticity would improve. Two weeks before I delivered, I gained a ton of water weight and even though my belly didn't get many stretch marks, the rest of my body (legs, hips, even my calves!) still has angry purple stretch marks all over. I am getting back to a somewhat normal size, but the marks are still very dark and deep. Any suggestions on how to diminish the marks?

Hi J.,
You have already received a number of product recommendations, but I'll add another. Research shows that Vitamins C and E boost the skin's natural ability to protect itself against the visible aging effects of time and the sun. However, the Vitamin C in other products is destroyed by oxidation as the fragile vitamin is exposed to water and air, even while still in the package. The best form of Vitamin C is pure ascorbic acid, which is extremely difficult to stabilize against this kind of oxidative destruction. The ideal ratio of C to E is 2-to-1 which is what this product contains. If you'll contact me personally, I'll let you know what this wonderful product is (____@____.com)
I got strtch marks on my belly that were purple right after my daughter was born. That scar treatment mederma really helped. My daughter is 10 months old and my stretch marks are already pretty close to my skin color. Also self tanners help to cover them up. Sun tanning makes them more obvious. Also used vitamin D and rubbed it on the marks.
It's all genetics. Ask your mom and grandmother about theirs. That will be a good insight as to what you can expect.
If you get an answer can you forward it to me
I've found a couple different medications available over the counter for stretch marks. One is Mederma (previously mentioned) and another is Scar Zone. I found Scar Zone at the Walmart pharmacy, and it was cheaper than Mederma (if I remember correctly it was about $8 or $9). It is a silicone based cream. I used it for awhile, but not as frequently as it said it should be used. My stretch marks have faded quite a bit, but honestly I don't know if it is the product or just time. I figured that it's cheap enough that it's worth a try! As you get the weight off and time goes by, they should really diminish. I hope this helps!
They will go away but only in year. Just keep putting cream on. That is really all I can tell you.
Hello! Congratulations on your son! I got a lot of stretch marks on my belly, thighs and under my arms(!). The best thing I found that helped me get my stretch marks to fade after birth was a product called "Beautiful Bellies". It's all natural and it worked like a charm! I still have the slight silver look to my stretch marks, but the purple/pink color began faded with in the first two weeks of using it. I even recommended it to a friend who had stretch marks and her son was two and a half, her stretch marks are gone! I found it once at a health food store, but they don't carry it anymore. You can only find it on line...so it's a little inconveniencing, but it's worth it! I hope this helps! Good luck!
Hi J..
Your stretch marks should fade. I had really dark ones on my thighs and they are almost completely gone. My son was born in October 2005. You're so lucky that you didn't get stretch marks on your belly. With my first born I got a few stretch marks here and there, but my son stretched me out everywhere. I even got stretch marks above my belly button. I thought they would never fade, but they did. The more you get back down to your normal size the more they will fade.

As time goes on they will get lighter, unfortunately never go away. If you find something else out...Let the rest of us know!
I hear some of that is genetics....also it just takes time...lots o time. Mine faded a lot by the end o the 1st year....I was 28 & 31 when I had my kids.
Enjoy your baby and congratulations. P.
I agree with Lisa,
They never totally go away but they fade to almost nothing in about a year or so. (Think of them as a badge of honor:)).
I too got horrible stretch marks with my first pregnancy i was very small when I got pregnant and seemed to get them everywhere but my stomach lol..they were terrible deep and purple I tried creams and lotions and all those expensive creams that are supposed to remove scars and stretch marks nothing worked...over time they are fading but they will always be there unless you have cosmetic surgery.Sorry i know how you feel though I can't even wear shorts I won't go any higher than capris lol.
