Never ever heard of people not coloring their hair while pregnant so I googled it.
It's not a big deal because the color doesn't pass through the placenta. No one has ever attributed a birth defect or issue from their mother coloring her hair while the little tyke was inside her.
If your doc said don't do it and could give you concrete reasons with evidence to show it was dangerous then I'd go with that. But I don't think that most would say that.
In animal studies this was found.
" Animal studies have been done with doses 100 times higher than what you would use on your hair. These studies have not shown any abnormal fetal development or birth defects in animals."
"The Organization of Teratology Information Services (OTIS), which provides information on potential reproductive risks, says that animal studies are reassuring and that there are no reports of hair dye causing changes in human pregnancies, despite the fact that many women have colored their hair during pregnancy. OTIS also points out that very little of the chemicals in hair dye is actually absorbed into your system."
They do all sorts of stuff to the animals, 100 times more than a person would be exposed to and nothing happened to the fetus of pregnant animals.

I think we all try to be extra careful when we're making a baby inside us but sometimes things go way overboard. Women of my generation ate tuna, smoked, drank alcohol, went to parties where pot was being passed around and whether we toked or not there was plenty of plenty of second hand pot smoke and more.
Our kids turned out okay for the most part. I worked in a christian child care facility and was a good christian wife to an evangelist. I didn't do those things but I didn't ever hear any of the things you ladies hear today. It's confusing for sure.
I took a medication for morning sickness that was later found to cause massive birth defects. A friend of mine took the same drug and her son was born with one arm extremely short, like his hand nearly on his shoulder. I was fortunate that my daughter didn't turn out with a massive birth defect.
There are so many old wives tales out there now and I am glad I won't be having any more babies because I'd eat what I wanted, go places I wanted, and have a normal pregnancy as much as I could.
