C-section at Presby Plano?

Can anyone share their c-section stories at Presby Plano? My daughter was born via unexpected c-section at Med. Ctr. of Plano but this one will be born at Presby Plano. My last c-section was horrible because it was unexpected and an emergency somewhat. Just not a good experience because of that, not really because of the doctor, nurses or hospital at MCP. I am just wondering what their policies are on having baby being BF in the recovery room, etc. I was way too looped out on drugs last time to nurse much less hold my baby until many hours later and I am hoping things will be different this time.

I just need a little encouragement because I am dreading another c-section but know it is probably the right(and safest) route to a healthy baby and mother.

Thanks!
NK

I've not delivered at Presby Plano but wanted to say that my second c-section was a breeze! I was much more relaxed about it since it wasn't as unexpected and rushed as the first (we knew I'd have a repeat, but she decided to come a week earlier than scheduled). I've had three, and they keep getting easier. :) It never feels good afterward, but I try to have the mindset that I get a couple of extra days to have some professional help and food delivered to my room. :)

I didn't breastfeed the second baby I had, as I was a gestational surrogate, but my third went onto the breast immediately after we got to the recovery room and she's been a champion nurser ever since! I needed a little extra help since I couldn't move very well, but we were able to do it pretty easily.

Even though you've alreay had a c-section and you know pretty much what's what, check out some books on the subject. Make yourself really well versed in all that's going to happen and you'll feel even more confident about the procedure and the afters. :)

I wish you the best of luck and I hope everything goes smoothly for the remainder or your pregnancy!

Hi N.!

I had my first c-section at Plano Presby in August 2005 and it was emergency. Everything turned out fine, the nurses and staff were great! I chose a c-section this time around and that is how we delivered our son on October 1st. My OB had our son out within 10 minutes, he cleaned up my old scar and everything went great! I was able to BF right away after getting back to the recovery room and while you are in the hospital, you can choose how often you want your child to stay with you - whether it be all night or let the nursery feed him while you get rest through the night. They are very flexible and everyone is just wonderful!

Good luck and congrats!

Hi, N., I had my son at Presby Plano last year and it was a fine experience. My doctor is Dr. Roberts and he was amazing and my labor and delivery nurse was this fantastic woman named Penny - I know you can't reserve a nurse but I wish you could - she was awesome! The whole c-section went just fine (I had to have one after being induced, dialated to a 10, pushed for 3 hours and he wouldn't come out so finally had to have a c-section). You are in excellent hands at that hospital - I promise. My lil sis has delivered at 2 other hospitals and both times were bad experiences so I was totally expecting a bad experience for mine, but I was amazed at how smooth the whole thing was and how good of care I got.

Now, one little hiccup I had about BF - they somehow, accidentally I guess, put me down as bottle feeding not BF so I did not get the immediate assistance of a lacation specialist. My son had jaundice so we did give him a bottle at first also b/c my milk hadn't come in and I think thats how the mix up occurred. My son never really would latch on and I was very upset about that and sometimes I feel the mix up played a part in that. SO - just be sure that your husband is very clear with the post-partum nurse about your BF wishes and you should be fine. Congratulations and good luck!

Hi N.,

I had my first daughter at Plano Presby via c-section (and also had Dr. Roberts!) and everything went very well. The nurses are just wonderful - supportive and informative the whole time. There was a class I attended after DD was born on BF where they showed us how to get our babies to latch, hold them, etc. as well as have a lactation specialist help me a couple of times. I really enjoyed my stay - Im having my second daughter there, too, in February!

Good luck!

I had a c-section at Plano Presby in June. It was great! They have a new delivery area that is clean and warm. I was able to BF Elizabeth 15 min after she was born and I was not too drugged to hold her with a little help from DH right after they took her out. It was a wonderful experience!

You'll be fine! GL

HI N.,
I can't relate to having a C-section at Presby of Plano but I did get one at Presby of Dallas.
I think your fear is coming from the unexpected c-section which I heard are the worse and recovery is harder.
When they're planned, everything goes alot smooter and I'm certain you'll be able to BF right after surgery. I was able to like the other post said about 15 min after delivery and it was wonderful.

Good luck and don't worry....things will go much better for you this time around.
